Netflix no longer breaks down the number of US subscribers in its global subscription base. My guess is that the number of US subscribers, where they get most of their revenue, is plummeting, while the number of subscriptions in shitholes like Paraguay where people pay very little for the service has been offsetting that in total numbers. I cancelled recently because there was very little on there worth watching and honestly I feel like I've seen it all at this point in my life. TV does very little for me anymore.

They've been cancelling shows left and right and they're going to try and crack down on account sharing. What they need is quality control over what gets developed but few people in hollywood seem to have any sort of creative spark left.

Woke or not it was still shit and not entertaining even to hate watch. It felt like a fan show you'd find on youtube where all the charm from the original had been sapped out and nobody involved had actually ever seen it. Same deal with the Halo TV show, same deal with the upcoming RE TV show, same deal with almost every recent adaptation of an anime or video game done by a western studio. They take the name of a popular IP for brand recognition only, then change everything that people loved about it.

There's this train of thought among a lot of the people working on these shows (and you see it in video game localization as well) that they need to "fix" the source material by making it palatable to left wing Twitter addicts. Hence why we have a diverse Americanized version of Cowboy Bebop with awful sub-Whedon dialog, that's their idea of making it better.

I know some socialists fantasize about the complete breakdown of US institutions and the writing of a new constitution etc, because it's pretty much the only path for actual socialism to happen here in the US, but when people talk about it as a realistic path I'm always left asking this question.

If the constitution was thrown out tomorrow, how the hell do they think what replaced it would be socialism? If they took to the streets to fight to make it so... that isn't something they'd win.

It may be the only feasible path, but it so extremely unlikely to pan out that it's a fantasy those people need to abandon. The reality would be lots of bloodshed, and the people who would pay the majority of that cost aren't the people currently in power, or the white majority that society is currently tilted hard towards.

And the end result is far more likely to leave white supremacists more empowered than to bestow upon us a society that works equitably for everyone.

So yeah. I'll take pragmatism. I'll take trying to work with the system to make society better and to try and improve the system. There'll be plenty of movement in the wrong way, but I believe we will continue to see overall progress. Slow progress, for sure. But progress.

In the middle but he is right that they just can't expect socialism to immediately prop up if they/we were to get rid of the constitution. Optimistic at best.

For socialism that involves unions and purchasing collectives there would only need to be a little willpower from the consumer to vote with their wallets and stand up for themselves. It can literally exist embedded in a capitalist system without any major changes.

For the brand of "socialism" that Chikor and Redmercury desire there would have to be pornographic amounts of bloodshed to a scope that would make Iron Felix blush, and that's before the internal purges that will happen when they discover people in their movement who said something racist on twitter once. Of course they would believe in a fully automated gay luxury space communism until it would be their turn to work the coal mines.

Its not just that - "decision" makes it seem more thoughtfully considered, as opposed to something you do with as much care as picking what brand of toilet paper you purchase. I leave it as an exercise for the reader to determine which one is actually closer to reality, particularly for the "shout your abortion" types.

The reality of it is that during an actual social collapse, which is a requirement for social change, where people are destitute and support structures are gone and everyone is either working in their own personal gardens in between shifts at the factory farm, the reality of it is that all this faggy drag shit, furry shit, gender fluidity shit is going to disappear and anyone who elevate it over literally the need to "shut the fuck up and go to work so we don't starve" are going to be dragged out back by the Stalinists and shot.
