Those retards think cops should just keep every possible piece of rescue equipment with them at all times, just in case a crazy person does something completely insane and they have to save him. And then deal with the inevitable protests when someone decides the cops’ tone wasn’t perfect.

There are even people suggesting the cops should’ve restrained the guy when he went over the railing. Haven’t they spent the last decade demanding cops stop getting physical with people? What if the guy has a heart attack and dies while they’re restraining him? We now know that’ll lead to weeks of riots and a murder conviction for the cop, so why would any of them take the risk to save a crazy person?

It's also worth noting that going out to rescue a drowner while not possessing a flotation device typically makes a drowning victim out of you too, especially if the drowner is the same size as you AND you're wearing street clothing (or a police uniform). It's why lifeguards always have those long foam buoys, and wouldn't go to rescue somebody without it.

But we know what the thread's about. Any reason to dump on the police and they'll take it, no matter how petty or untrue.
