Welcome, newkiwi. I personally never had a Resetera account and have no idea why this guy got banned, but I hope someone can help you out. This thread has been moving pretty slowly since the site has been up and down for a while, but it's been picking up lately.

It is true a lot of the pals have a very Pokemon style to them, but yeah lol. Trubbish is just peak innovative imagination.
I do think a lot of the pals actually resemble creatures from other games/franchises more than Pokemon. There's one that looks a lot like Carbuncle from Final Fantasy games.
There's really only so many "animal plus thing" designs you can really make though.
I think Digimon had actually more interesting designs for creatures than Pokemon.

The amount of "banned for daring to insult brand" that goes on is one of my favorite things about Resetera, other than the oversharing of ridiculous and embarrassing life events.
It's just so silly. Ribbing about "shit taste" and stuff like that has always been around in gaming circles, it's just good fun.
But people on that site get so insanely para socially attached to brands and games it actually upsets them if someone insults them.
