Devil's advocate, I don't even think it's that. "Genocide" is just one of those things that's seen as the ultimate kind of evil and a synonym for "hateful extermination in general" and they want to feel like Jews in 1940s Germany so badly to get the same sort of protection and sympathy

I'd suspect they just endorsed the Cass Report and little else. An internet search fails to confirm that and they seem to have been in lockstep with Stonewall up until a couple of months ago so doubt that has changed.
