It's been an ongoing joke for a while that if you just mention being black every couple of posts, you get to shitpost on GAF without restraint. Beneath the surface, it's not really a video game forum anymore. It's been years since a huge story broke on there (no reason for leakers to post anything since they can get banned/mod doxed/money elsewhere), most of the notable developers have run off and the gaming community threads have seen their traffic collapse over the last few years. There were two threads about people on the forum not playing video games within the last week. It's not unusual to see those threads either. There are moderators and members with tens of thousands of posts that have next to zero replies in video game topics. Which video game forum recruits members from LGBT communities? Which video game forum cares about how many women own a console? Which video game forum becomes one of Hillary Clinton's biggest traffic drivers in an election year? A site that's probably not a video game forum anymore.

It's not a new phenomenon by any means, but there is a growing push in non-political realms like video gaming to say "you can't be a gamer unless you subscribe to our political narrative". It's like saying I'm not allowed to play tennis because I don't drive the right kind of car. It doesn't make any sense.

It's because gaming has turned from just another hobby into a "subculture" for spergs and social misfits, who for obvious reasons likely identify more with SJW politics on average, and has more to do with fetishization and masturbatory fantasies around fictional video game characters than it even does actually playing video games with any measure of skill, like esports players do.

Kind of like the difference between someone who occasionally listens to ICP, versus someone who identifies as a "Juggalo".
