NeoGAF & ResetERA - The Hilarious N̶e̶v̶e̶r̶e̶n̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ Splintering "Gaming" Forum Circus

Tie your accounts to social security numbers? That’s not authoritarian or fascist at all right? All because you’re mad over freedom of speech, diversity not being catered to, and the majority of people espousing political views to the right of Marx?

When LF died on Something Awful, a contingent of the dregs of that forum (trannies, leftists, feminists) went off to form their closed walls, invite only hug box. It died due to infighting and moderator abuse. Expect any neogaf replacement to do the same and have zero influence over the industry.

The fun part in all this is the gaffot refugees who have to be subject to other echo chambers. There's no shortage of shitty prog gaming forums where they could squeal about gamergate but NeoGAF was a cut above the rest when it came down to wiping out wrongthink. So they're going to have to see the occasional opinion they disagree with and it's going to cause them to start autismally sperging out.

LMAO!

3. Selling NeoGAF is not an option since as a brand it is now damaged goods, and #1 and #2 still apply to the future of NeoGAF. Alternatively, he could try to sell the user database to sketchy overseas companies, it would fit right in with the "Malka is a piece of shit" narrative and would also allow him to get revenge against the site that betrayed him in one fell swoop.

He should sell it to gook moot.

Listen to these sad little fascists and their power fantasies about an immensely powerful state.
This is why you don't want the feds to have unchecked power. The political tides turn quickly. Be careful about making it easy to toss people in prison for wrongthink, because the person deciding what's right and wrong might not be on your side tomorrow.

I see what you're getting at:

When the Spergs of GG were encountered with someone on their side going full retard (which happened quite a bit, owing to its leaderless nature), the bulk of GG's Autists disavowed them and often joined in ridiculing them, working to throw them out. Whether it was Ethan Ralph, Lord Balderdash, or Vordrak, the fringe elements of GG got forced away and kept fringe. Similarly, when a GG-associated e-celeb went off the rails, GG simply stopped paying them any attention.

But to contrast, GG Opponents counted on aggressive message control and loud voices. This meant that it had, ironically enough, a need to adhere to authority. This was reflected in their refusal to even talk on any platform where they could face anything harsher than taint-licking supplication. Because "muh narrative" was so focused on their biggest names, and because their tendency to handwave anything remotely disparaging about their own side let problems metastasize, when one of their side had a problem, the result was disastrous.

Some interesting political lessons to be learned here.

:offtopic:Right, and this is a great example of why figures such as David Jaffe were wrong when they said, "This movement [GamerGate] needs an official leader." Official leaders can be character assassinated or dogpiled for wrongthink.:offtopic:

Too... too much winning... Can't even...

What the hell did they have against Plague of Gripes? Dude's fucking hysterical in his videos!

I'm pretty sure we won't be seeing that "Belle Eve" meme around anytime soon if Neogaf dies off.

It'll pop up only to be mocked, probably, by being the mascot of a dead shithole.

I can imagine the mods from Neogaf might flee to /v/, and, given their experience with modding (even if they are fucking awful), they might just become janitors or mods on /v/ itself, basically turning it into neogaf 2.0 but with more autism and anonymous shitposting

Yeah but at least there, they will simply merge with the rest of the spregatory hivemind and hold little power elsewhere.

Fuck you moot.

Well, moot did get fucked. By SJW pussy.

That's why he was forced to abandon his creation.

Holy shit, that man is on a rampage, and rightfully so. How much you wanna bet some kind of reference to this event is getting put in the game now?

NeoGAF is kill. The userbase is leaving en masse, the admin is forever a marked man, and there's no real "out" to it.

1. If it stays up, there's a chance that the user base will re-stablilize and it can at least maintain enough profitability to remain. However, it will likely never be viewed seriously again and will never be the influential force it once was.
2. A riskier game would be to accept all newcomers just to keep the advertising dollars up, and ending up with a dramatically different core. I think that Malka would rather pull the plug than see NeoGAF be re-colonized by pro-GG/right-wing users.
3. Selling NeoGAF is not an option since as a brand it is now damaged goods, and #1 and #2 still apply to the future of NeoGAF. The funny thing is this all could have been avoided had action been taken about 24 hours earlier: explaining what happened, allowing a sticky for discourse and discussion, and an immediate resignation as admin could've salvaged NeoGAF, something like what @CrunkLord420 suggested. It's too late now, now even harder decisions must be made.

Had Malka issued even a half assed statement, it would have ended most of the drama. Not all of it but they could deal with that the way they deal with all wrongthinkers on the site. Fortunately for us, he is such a dumbass that he picked seemingly the only option that would make things worse.

I guess I also need a new username here.

Even though they consider Reddit to be (somehow) too right-leaning for their tastes, would they bite the bullet and try to integrate into subreddits like Gamerghazi and Games, or would they continue to look down upon the site out of arrogance?

With his control freak psychosis he turned what might have been an embarrassing scandal into a blazing conflagration that burned his site to the ground in less than 24 hours, decimated his user base, and annihilated his moderation team.

Now the site is radioactive and nobody wants to be associated with it.

What an utter moron.

Note: @Null is a noble tyrant in comparison. Let that settle in. Careening from one terrorist attack to the next, this site is a model of stability and enlightenment in comparison.

What other choices would they have, if Neogaf dies, they can either become lurkers, never touch the internet again, or at least try to find a brand new home.

Ironically, the kinds of people who post on NeoGAF--who think that what the country really needs is totalitarian control of speech and behavior--also think Drumph is an actual Nazi. And they think both of these things simultaneously.
