The way that ResetERA requires people to jump through hoops in order to get an account and the fact that they're so liberal with their application of permabans means that the forum's not going to be long for this world. Give it a year or so and it'll be another one of those small, obscure forums with the same 20 or so people who post every day and nobody else who talks to them. There's no possibility for growth, even if they get in the limelight due to some kind of news article or whatever the fact that it's so hard to make an account means that most people I'm sure just won't bother. It doesn't carry the prestige that NeoGAF had.

You have to remember the caliber of shithead that is your average gaffot. Obviously, we won't be talking about the ones too afraid to actually post 0r the ones who were actually decent posters once divorced from their host website. We're talking the sort of shitheads that threw their support behind GAF's witch hunts and unironically had the balls to call other people harassers.

In many ways, these people fall into the same categories as the likes of Nora Reed, Vade, and Springtrapp in that they're barely employed, if at they're not parasitic NEETs, and they predominantly judge themselves not by merit, but by pressuring and forcing others to enact the cult's will. Anything that offends their morality is a target, and if it lets them virtue signal, so much the better.

Outside the cult, they have no power. They have no relevance. But they need to lord over someone, and thus the madness continues.

Dennis Dyack recently joined ResetERA to see what was up with it, was immediately dogpiled, threatened over prior connections to Gamergate, then banned when he wouln't condemn Gamergate enough.

So GAF 2.0, trying desperately to establish itself as an alternative, actually gets a dev to sign up and post.

They respond by demanding the guy flagellate over Gamergate and then banning him for wrongthink.

Dyack's pretty much a lolcow in of himself, so I'm not at all surprised. Dude's been a big pissbaby about preventing Crystal Dynamics/Square-Enix from re-releasing Blood Omen on sites like GOG and Steam (due a lawsuit yay years ago) despite the fact Silicon Knights is practically dead and buried at this point stemming largely from his overly micromanaging incompetence, so he gets what he deserves IMHO.

the sources in the article were never really sourced nor confirmed prior to the article being published, Kotaku shoved it up without doing an ethics check. But apparently what actually happened to X-Men Destiny was that Disney brought Marvel mid-project. They were making a game for what was essentially a rival film company, so the budget basically got slashed - which considering how rip & tear Disney can be with acquired companies, was some luck it didn't just get canned.

TBF Denis Dyack and Derek Smith both had run ins and were not the most popular of devs, but they were easy punching bags due to a desire to engage themselves. Dyack seems to have tried to revive projects here and there, but focuses on helping educational programs instead and a Youtube channel where they discuss recent gaming news.

Ehhhh... I wouldn't trust Dyack's side 100%, but this is one of those situations where both sides probably have truth to them.
