The main thing that annoys me about Resetera is that they're trying to forcibly position themselves as the place where game developers and insiders can talk with one another and answer questions from fans. It feels not only inorganic, but also like a false front for what ultimately is just another echo chamber.

If you want actual discussion of video games, go to /v/ or something. At least they aren't disingenuous.

On a different topic, the post talking about sexism in games confuses me. The "dont buy the game then" is an interesting point. If the media truly offends their sensibilities why vote with their wallet. I hate the term "gamer" in fact I hate people who make the media they consume part of their identity.

But I would but gamers are addicted to the media so they will play it any way.

Though I wonder how well studios could make money by viture signaling in their games just like how everyone loves steven universe.

They can't go that route because gaming as a medium is seen as a male-dominated arena, like comics and team sports, not a more neutral one like television or literature.

Those mediums have the same "this is patriarchy because I don't' like it!" detractors, yes. But they stick to specific tropes and shows. Mad Men is problematic, Star Trek is sexist, but there's not the added on demand for "televisionists" to be destroyed through social de-platforming because they're all Nazis.

Gaming is seen as a toxic cesspit of cismales that needs to be cleansed first before they'll even consider becoming a part of it to even allow pandering to. It's compounded outrage. They won't even DARE buy a GAME, that would make them an, ugh, GAMER! You should remove the gamers to make us more welcome! (and then we'll move the goalposts and never approve of any game you make because it lacks enough helicopterkin)

And they've clearly gloriously and embarrassingly failed at that "no boys" prerequisite despite their best efforts.

I'll handle this one. Since the Autism Holy War, I've been struggling to figure out what the christ the endgame of all this Social Justice tomfoolery was. At this point I'm at best reasonably sure I can take a guess at it, and it ties nicely into what you gents mentioned, so here goes. Word of caution though: It's a long one.

Something that the perpetually offended brigade absolutely fucking hates is that gaming is not one market. They try to force it to be one on the grounds that it makes their bullshit easier to push, but even their vaunted 52% statistic (the one claiming 52% of all gamers are women) is a fundamentally corrupted statistic, reached by lumping every platform in with mobile gaming, having an incorrect sample size, no control group, and basically labelling every single person who plays video games a Gamer. See, you can reach any conclusion if you fuck up your data hard enough.

DiGRA, the group that was the think-tank behind this big push to shove identity politics in games and is the ideological source of the "Gamers Are Over" articles inadvertently gave the game away with their attempts to argue for diversity; after their first attempt fucked up and proved the exact opposite of what they were hoping, they used increasingly broad strokes to try to justify it.

What they gave away here was a fucking pathological hatred of a plurality of free markets, and the simple reason for it is that the fact that everyone can just vote with their wallet and buy what they want and play what they want immediately puts a bullet in the head of the need for diversity at any cost:

They were pushing in hard, but as is usually the case with people possessed of such ambitious, they got way too confident way too early, and in an effort to stifle GG before it could blossom into a full-blown pushback, they went all-in with the Gamers Are Over incident. This inevitably led to their exposure and the entire tapestry coming undone behind the scenes, because if it comes between the Diversity Cult and paying customers, the paying customers will win every fucking time.

TL;DR: The usual cancer got into DiGRA, tried to use it to get a foothold in gaming, using the same old methods. They were initially successful, only to fuck it all up by going all-in against the very concept of customers buying the products they want.

I remember back when Vice was relevant I watched a documentary they made about Colombians that lived in the sewers to escape death squads that roamed the streets gunning down dissidents. Despite the fact that they lived in the sewers the Colombian government would still send people down there to purge people that might be considered problematic.

At one point the reporter was actually in danger of being shot and killed by a Colombian death squad that existed for the sole purpose of marching through those tunnels and murdering every man, woman, and child that chose to hide in the sewers. It's a great video that I highly recommend watching.

As bad as all that sounds just try to imagine being a transwoman in Brooklyn that writes about video games. Colombian death squads are bad but today's Vice employees have to deal with gamers on the internet. Now you understand how it feels to live in Trump's America.

Great write-up, I think that SJWs always go for positions of influence, not necessarily authority (Although they will not reject those positions if offered). They always want to be the power behind the throne, so to speak.

They are very hell-bent on spreading their post-marxist ideology (especially to youth) and will stop at no lengths to prevent their ideological opponents from even chiming in with their side of an argument, let alone winning it.

It's important to note that those death squads are paramilitary militias, not government forces. They're basically what NeoGAF think people who post Nazi frog memes are, for real.
