This is borderline thread-worthy but @Null took away the Salt Mine. So here's the continuation Tim Soret/The Last Night saga.

ResetEra makes yet another Tim Soret hate thread, just some highlights from the first 2 pages of a 9 page thread. Most of the time I find ResetEra humorous, but I do not enjoy seeing these people try to professionally blacklist and slander a person for merely supporting GG back in 2014. He's not even a conservative and they call him alt-right: https://www.resetera.com/threads/updates-on-the-last-nights-development.90621/ (https://archive.fo/LBW2p)

Hello everybody.

First, thanks for posting my game.

I registered to clarify my position, which is very clear and moderate by the way:

• I am for a better representation of women in video games. I want more female characters, written to be interesting & less cliché, and I also want more female developers in the industry. We are 6 in our team. These talents came to us since more than a year. Among them and the hundred of emails from people that want to work on our game, no women at all. I have no idea why, so yes I want it to change. As many gamers, I absolutely adored playing Ellie in The Last of Us, or Clementine in Walking Dead, or Ripley in Alien Isolation, and The Boss is my favorite character in all the Metal Gear Solid saga. It proves that video games are not as terrible as I've been reading lately. However, I deeply agree that we need more characters like that, and I think gamers, contrary to what is told in medias these days, are really happy to play with such fascinating characters. I don't know anyone that was angry to play Ellie just because she was a girl. And just like critics, I'm bored as hell to see the sexy elf armor syndrome, to see Kerrigan being sexualized in Starcraft, and this kind of terrible art direction. I make games partly because I want to create something different & avoid clichés. Our main character in The Last Night is bisexual. And our other long term project, Behind Nowhere, features a 15 years-old strong, independent girl that grew up by herself. I think I'm definitely taking a step in the right direction to offer more diversity to gamers.

• However, I think Sarkeesian is cherry picking and painting the whole video game culture as something very negative, which, as a gamer since I'm 4 (hello Ecco the Dolphin & Flashback), I can't accept. Video games have been incredibly diverse to me, playing all kind of animals & characters in all kind of countries & imaginary worlds. I've killed 10 times more aliens, nazis, soldiers, and innocent male characters than women in video games. So when I see Sarkeesian saying video game culture is tainted with violence against women, I say no. Video game culture is tainted with violence toward everyone. And, just like gamers used to deflect conservative when they told violence in video games makes you violent in real life, sexism in video games do not make you sexist in real life. This is a gross assumption, and this is why I disagree with her conclusions while I totally agree on some parts of her work. Oh, and also, when I read that "Ico is sexist", I just can't accept any more stuff from her. I think she's toxic & she's spreading conflict instead of encouraging change. That is my opinion, and you have the right to disagree and like her work.

• I also don't buy the patriarchy stuff. Maybe it applies in the USA, but I live in Paris, and here in France, virility is not encouraged at all, sensitive men and intelligence are a lot more appreciated than "being a tough guy" and muscles. Most masculine behaviors are totally prohibited and are considered very macho here.

• When I saw the 14 articles the exact same day on several websites to say "Gamers are over" or "Gamers are dead", I couldn't accept it. I can't accept to see medias & journalists on Twitter paint "gamers" as misogynistic, white trash, neckbeard, while we are a very diverse culture, with gamers from all countries of the world, all sex, all age. I really can't see how medias can make such generalisation from the terrible actions of a few irrational people.

• I am, of course, against any form of harassment. I've been harassed quite a lot lately myself.

• Personally, I'm interested in the actual work of artists, not their personal opinions.

Otherwise, I would miss so many classic movies, books, and music, just because I disagree with the artist.

If you like our game (which is very progressive), you shouldn't change your mind because I have different opinions than yours.

I hope you understand my position better now, and you can see I'm not the terrible human being you might have thought.

I go back to work now! See you soon for those who are still interested.

Oh and thank you Danielle you were awesome in the podcast, and syntheticgerbil, it was incredible for my brother & I to see this video!

By the way, I hope that you all saw the first official screenshot here. More infos on oddtales.net

I imagine BronsonLee would be very happy with the idea of Microsoft deplatforming Tim Soret

They’re mad at him because someone made a claim the game is against basic income and he made a rather innocuous comment about GG. They’re trying their best to destroy his game and life over nothing. The speds who rely on ebegging are trashing a dude who’s trying to make a living and pay his employees.

That was a good own on the ugly/fat simpsons podcaster. Who even cares about the simpsons, it’s been shit for 10+ seasons.

I know this is off-topic but since you guys keep talking about it, I'm not sure how exactly the latest Harry Potter film flopped when it's current gross is over $600 million against a $200 budget? I haven't seen it and I'm sure it sucks, but I don't think it's accurate to claim it's a flop.
There are three types of flops: your financial flop, your critical flop, and your total flop.
A financial flop is a movie that, while pretty damn good, did not do well at all at the box office. Blade Runner and The Shawshank Redemption are two good examples of this.
A critical flop is a film that, while making bank, is actually just a trash movie all around but had appealing enough marketing or hook to draw in viewers. The Crimes of Grindelwald is in this category; it's making bank but it's been panned as a mediocre film. Also, every Michael Bay film ever fits the bill here too.
Finally there's total flops. This is a combo of the first two; the film sucks overall and makes no money on the first weekend and subsequent weeks. Battlefield Earth is the absolute best example for this one. Terrible as fuck movie that was so bad, no one wanted to see it. At least Micheal Bay's explosions and action can entertain you for at least half the movie.

The Simpsons seasons 1-8 are prime nostalgia material for a podcast made by lumpy, aging men who have no future, aimed at the same group of people.

There are podcasts for seemingly every 90s through 00s show with any notoriety. It's the new trend for people whose prior ambitions a decade ago would have been AVGN or Channel Awesome.

Pretty much on the money. Some movies gain 'cult' status, gaining new fans after leaving the theaters.

And I have no illusions about Bay's work (except for Pain and Gain, which is such a different tack for him people don't realize that was one of his films). Of course, one of the reasons Bay keeps getting jobs is because (a) his stuff is visually impressive, and (b) he gets films done on time and within budget.

I think a movie can't be a flop if it makes lots of money just because that's the only reason anyone makes movies. Even art fags want money.

It may be a shitty movie, but it isn't a flop.

Also, I don't think a movie can really be a flop unless the initial outlay for making it means it caused a huge disaster by failing. Something like Heaven's Gate was the definitive flop, or even a bomb, because it not only lost huge amounts of money and was critically panned, but literally nuked United Artists out of existence and, for that matter, nobody would even touch an "auteur film" for years afterwards.

Pretty much on the money. Some movies gain 'cult' status, gaining new fans after leaving the theaters.

The Room would be an example of this, as it was a disastrous flop on release, after somehow costing $2 million to make but looking like it was shot in Uganda for $2000.

Then there are also flops like The Shawshank Redemption mentioned above, that performed disappointingly on release, but became one of the most rented videos and most run movies on TV, and is still the highest user rated movie on imdb, beating out both Godfathers along with everything else.

It's pretty amazing how much this bog standard almost cliche center-left French dude making a pretty standard dystopian tale really grinds these faggots gears because he shit talks them on Twitter.

"If you don't agree with my precise ideology you are Alt-Right. No other ideologies exist."

It's an attitude I've also noticed is taking over SomethingAwful.

Apropos of nothing, simplistic black-and-white thinking, self-centredness and an inability to understand nuance or the viewpoints of others are all symptoms of autism.

"Nuance" is just some invented nonsense GamerGater MRA alt-right dog-whistle.

It's even more ironic as I believe the original pitch for "The Last Night" was a setting that wasn't "anti-feminism" but a world where the world is overly PC policed and ironically for suggesting this could be the case the actual PC police are trying to get his game cancelled, him and his studio defunded, and blacked out of all media like Kingdom Come was.

It would be a bit easier to convince Tim Soret this wouldn't be possible if you weren't actively behaving like his futuristic villains from his story, in both your actions and motivations.

You know, besides how uncomfortable it is to see a bunch of grown men foaming at the mouth over the sexuality of a fucking Disney Princess, I wonder if any of these twats understand that Disney will most definitely NOT make Elsa a lesbian over the risk of non-american countries potentially banning the film thus hurting their international box office.

"possible sexism in forever 21 ads.. downplaying the repercussions of boxing... complaining about teenagers being lazy":story:
How can they complain about NWO jewish conspiracies when the far-left believes in NWO jewish conspiracies AND a Russia controls the world conspiracy?

The guy was banned for that iirc.

I agree with Era for once. After all, making a female lead gay to "trigger the conservatives" worked out so well for Overwatch, She-Ra, Steven Universe, and Ghostbusters. ...oh, wait.
