A bunch of the "verified" people are super obscure glorified bloggers and some are obscure YouTubers. It's pretty amazing what they'll label as "verified" as if it needed to be. Like a guy who wrote one Battlefield review on a website that has barely any Twitter followers like 18 months ago and describes himself as a "freelance writer."
Most of the "legit" people are people who were GAF posters before they became actual industry people like dark1x or are well known like Patrick Klepek/Jason Schreier and don't need any kind of "staff verification" because, well, they can just tweet out "hi ResetERA" or some shit.
