From what I read about this (on ResetEra no less) this situation was a perfect example of the absurdity of the "forbidden deadname" concept.

The Catherine character or whatever literally time travels into the past when Erica is still Eric in every way. No Eric "who thinks he might have the wrong gender" or Eric "who likes to wear mommy's clothes" or anything like that. I don't remember if he's gay or not but I'll just assume so since Japan. But there's absolutely no way to refer to this character as Erica, because Erica as a concept literally does not exist yet, we're in the fucking past! He's Eric, he only conceives of himself as Eric, a male!

In a high school flashback scene, Eric[a] is seen.

In the ending where Catherine rewrites history to make her and Vincent a couple in high school, history is altered so that Erica has not transitioned yet, although her dialog implies she is still planning to. It is not explained why Erica has not transitioned yet; it may be because Vincent's marriage with Catherine is set earlier than later, or perhaps Erica's transition is rather recent in the original timeline. It may also simply be a ripple effect caused by a butterfly effect in an alternate reality. In the same ending, Katherine ending up with Paul may be another example of how Catherine trying to get with Vincent in the past caused changes in their timeline.
