How you balance personal liberty (which should come with personal responsibility) with a socialised healthcare system (where essentially other people are made to pay for your bad choices) is one of the big ethical questions facing Western society. Bear in mind that the USA has the least socialised healthcare in the Western world and it's still a problem.

I didn't even have to read the thread before I knew what REEEEra's solution to this delicate problem was - Fascism. Fascism for everybody until you're all thin, then more Fascism. For your own good.

Voluntary risk and No-claim bonuses on the insurance side (reward healthy behavior, not punish being sick). and probably better education about the perils of processed sugar and fats. I absolutely despise making crap illegal however.

When they are so desperate to keep their circle jerk going, only a troll can become a mod. A person who has real actual opinions couldn't fit in there, there's no chance they'd all line up right. Only someone playing to their delusion can possibly meet their impossible expectations.

Sometimes I wonder if there's anything on ResetERA except trolls. It would make more sense, in a way.

Authoritarians "know" what is good because the people they agree with tell them they do. That is how their ideas are reinforced and perpetuated. They want to control everything for the same reason they cannot laugh at their own beliefs: if they don't constantly reinforce said beliefs, they will come crashing down because there is nothing else holding them up. (And no, they're not aware of this, because they're typically incapable of switching perspectives to see things from any angle other than their preapproved one.)
