In my state, 16 is the general age of consent but it's 18 in the case of anyone who is in a position of power relative to the younger party. It's also 18 for commercial sex. Other states have similar provisions in their age of consent laws.

What's different this time is it isn't a new generation that's doing the same song and dance as previous generations. It's the same people that rebelled against this nonsense.

There was a poll a while back that put most of ResetEra's user base around age 35. That's old enough to remember Jack Thompson and parent groups saying that GTA was going to turn people into killers and Tomb Raider was going to turn boys into perverts. (Given the rise of weeb games, they might have been right about that last one.)

Some of us are old enough to remember Jack's first angle of attack, rap music. Mainly the silly, jokishly oversexed Miami rap, specifically 2 Live Crew because they had supported a political opponent of his (Janet Reno). Also targeted NWA's Straight Outta Compton a bit, which is kind of quaint looking back since most of the album was actually dance music or dirty humor. "I won't stop till I get the head of a record company or record chain in jail." 60 years earlier he would have been a fire and brimstone preacher going after dirty blues singers, if whites had had any conception of the blues back then.

There are eerie similarities on so many levels. It's almost entirely an attack on the idea of fun by people who are in no way fun.
