The reason there was a shitstorm was that the translator did a bit of rebalancing and renaming to remove stupid Japanese tropes (like Angel upgrading into Lucifer, he changed the name of the upgrade because he thought it was dumb) and straight-up mythological errors on their part. This was construed as being untrue to the developers' vision and the greatest sacrilege.
