We browse it often, so it's hard to realize, but when you take a step back, it's clear.

- Most Day-1 VIP and high-profile admin quit and made the transition to twitter.
- Isamu Fukui, the founder, bailed out because he cares about his (already dead) reputation.
- The OT are almost all dead, all the members spent their time on various discords instead...
- Dozen of Neogaf ancient members got banned for stupid reasons and that's the kind of people who generated the meat.

When you browse the gaming forum of Resetera, it's always the same 20 or 30 autists posting. And it's just one-liners in reaction of something, it's like you're reading a twitter feed. The engagement is shit. Neogaf was massive in terms of members engagement, it was rare to stumble across the same people on various threads and the discussion were interesting.

It's been 6 months since the last Nintendo direct and look how dead the forum is right now. Nintendo directs or big Sony announcements are the only time the activity is decent. Neogaf made it big by being funny, Resetera is the complete opposite (you laugh, you're banned). For all the bullshit, Neogaf was a meme factory. Resetera is still stuck in 2010's memes and keep reusing them ad nauseum.

Let's not even talk about Resetera's reputation or the the irrelevance to the industry. Everyone know they're bad, it's not just us making fun of them.

We browsed Neogaf for leaks and shit, now everything leaks on reddit, 4chan or twitter.

Most of the active posters on Resetera, only post there because they failed to make it big on Twitter. Think about Hobbes, Mazi, Excelspreadshit, Redmercury, SweetNicole... Outside of Resetera, they're your random 600 followers type of guy nobody care about. For them, posting on Resetera is their only way to feel relevent. All the people that had some kind of decent following outside of Resetera just bailed out (MatPisctallea, Emily Rogers, Nibel, Durante...).

Only Jason Shrier keep posting there, because Resetera buy his books in bulk and he participated actively in making Neogaf fall.

Most forums that worth going to don't want to deal with them, they find places like Reddit and GameFaqs to be too alt-right for them and as left-leaning as twitter is they still have to deal with people with no mods to coddle them.. I use VPNBook often for non-critical purposes and I figured it might be useful for others. The reason that I say don't use it for "mission-critical" purposes is that AFAIK nobody knows who they are, or why they are running it. There's been research on it a few years ago and last I looked into it nobody knows. People have suggested it could be Canadian government-related, but they just pulled it outta their ass really because nobody knows.

The reason I like them is that you don't have to use some shitty proprietary software to use their free services and they have servers on every continent. You can use OpenVPN or the Outline client (an open-source client specifically for journalists, although Google is backing it with funding) or any other VPN client you choose, they just change credentials once a week or whatever. They actually have a twitter bot (https://twitter.com/vpnbook) that tweets the credentials, so if you follow them and choose "notifications" it will go straight to your phone as soon as they change them.
