I legit can't understand people who think forced diversity at the expense of storytelling is a good thing. Why do the movie/tv execs keep making these super woke/gender and race swapped versions of things when they consistently bomb? I thought all they cared about was money.

Some were already mentioned (woke production team, execs blindly following woke advisers), but three I've not seen mentioned.

Companies, or the PR teams they hire, are still working under the rules of the 1980s. A single nut could be ignored, and an angry fanbase could be calmed with an apology and maybe throwing them a bone. That doesn't work in the age of social media where a small number of dedicated crazies can attack a company relentlessly and give the impression they are a large group, and an apology is seen as a confirmation of guilt that allows them to go for the throat.

Then there's the market cap. Let's say that Star Wars has 50 million fans, and 90% of those are men (I don't know the actual numbers, this is just as an example). It doesn't matter how good they make the new Star Wars, they can't get more than 50 million to watch. Disney assumes 45 million of those fans will buy a bag of dog shit if it has "Star Wars" written on it. Market research says 50 million women would watch if Star Wars had a female lead. But the women who claimed to want a female led Star Wars don't turn up, and the built in fanbase who would buy dog shit in a bag wasn't 45 million, but 2 million.

Finally, there's the excuses. Your woke game/film bombs and your arse is on the line. What do you say? "It wasn't my fault! It got great reviews. It was an alt-right review campaign that caused it to bomb!" or "It wasn't woke enough! We need more women/minorities/wokeness!". Arse covered, job kept, on to the next project.
