There really aren't that many trans people. Legitimately trans, that is. They're a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population both in the United States and throughout the world. I define "legitimately trans" as a person who is actively seeking treatment (of some kind -- not necessarily surgery, but maybe therapy or medication) for gender or body dysmorphia and is either making an active effort to present and live as their "preferred" sex or making an active effort to treat and manage their dysmorphia so they can live a normal life as their physical gender. These people are rare, quiet, non-confrontational and go to great lengths to conform with the social norms expected of their preferred gender, or their physical gender if they're trying to treat the dysmorphia psychologically or medically (without surgery). They don't screech for attention, whine about oppression or even make a fuss over themselves. Apart from the mental illness of dysphoria, they're relatively normal, sane people. That's why we don't notice them.
There's a whole metric fuckton of trenders and posers, though. Ever since gay marriage was legalized by the Supreme Court half a decade ago, homosexuals have essentially been "demoted" on the progressive stack and, arguably, have had their victim cards collectively revoked by the woke crowd. All the same kinds of "protections" and outrage on behalf of the oppressed that used to benefit homosexuals have all shifted onto the trannies instead. So all sorts of "genderfluid" morons, special snowflakes and straight up grifters have all transitioned (heh) into transtrending. Most have no intentions to transition, get therapy or take hormones. Some make piss-poor attempts to dress up and roleplay like the opposite sex, but some are brazen enough to make no physical changes at all while still demanding people treat them as their preferred sex anyway. Jake Alley is a great example -- he's fat, has male pattern baldness and has a grey beard six inches or longer. He wears men's clothing, doesn't wear makeup, speaks with his normal male voice, and lives as a male. Yet he calls himself "transgender" and gets upset when people "misgender" him.
Trenders have figured out that all they have to do to claim the "protected status" afforded to trannies by the woke crowd is to simply state they are trans. The woke crowd will defend them against all criticisms, including pointing out the obvious, calling all of it "transphobic" and calling for people's jobs and heads.
ResetEra is a perfect illustration of this. I guarantee you there's only a handful of legitimately trannies on the site (my guess would be five or so, if that) and the rest are (as we've already seen revealed on several occasions) dumb angry white men larping as trannies because it makes them impervious to criticism or rebuke there. They can misbehave all they want and say all the nasty shit they want, and the rest of the site has to sit there and take it with a shit-eating grin lest they offend the "trannies" and they get the mods involved. The mods hate the trannies too, but as we've seen in the past few days, they're stuck between a rock and a hard place. Keep them around, and they'll keep dragging the site down. Kick their asses to the curb, and they'll scream "transphobia" to anyone who will listen. Given that even now, nobody actually listens to them besides the peanut gallery (e.g. us), I'd argue that's a risk worth taking and the mods would be much better off banning every tranny participating in this meltdown and anyone who takes their side and complains about it.
This is happening online so much more than IRL simply because they can maintain their illusion much more easily online. IRL, ain't nobody with a beard and a deep voice tricking or convincing anybody around them that they're really a woman. It just isn't happening. They know it, we know it, everyone knows it. It's been said this sort of thing "shatters the illusion" and causes a narcissistic injury, so the trenders avoid it as much as possible.
