The whole Empire Stormcloaks thing in Skyrim was poorly done at best anyway. Given you could join the empire, kill Ulfric Stormcloak and make peace through the land and then follow a storyline that ended up with you assassinating the emperor. Plus all the main story quests that had you fighting the Thalmor, an empire ally. It was such a mess of conflicting "choices" where choosing a side really didn't have an impact on a lot of story lines that had you taking a side.

You'd think they'd be okay with Kainé, given that her story involves her being born with a dick, but I guess that it only counts when its being written by superior western developers, instead of those icky Japanese.

The entire purpose of ree type communities is to gatekeep their identities to claim the most oppression points. If they let everyone in then they wouldn't have special status.
