Netflix wants to mail you it's old DVDs

Just get a relatively cheap bluray player. As long as that bad boy plays disc's, it doesn't need to do much else. They're all fairly solid
bluray players are slightly more tricky then DVD players, as a loft of bluray disks user java apps for the menus and so can be very slow on players with low end processors. They'll still work fine, and you're not guaranteed to get a better player at a more expensive price

I've never really noticed much of a issue lol, as long as it plays disc's, it can be a tiny bit slow, it's all good if you don't want to invest a ton yet still want a cheap BD player
 
DVDs and Blu-rays are just digital copies that won't be destroyed by a solar flare, but will still rot within 20-50 years depending on how cheaply it was made. Maybe not M-DISC.
