I wouldn't mind a PS5 but honestly, not seeing much reason to get one when I gotta a PC that can play games and I need to save money from each paycheck I get. Maybe in a year or two, after I do any further PC upgrades I might consider the PS5.

What games are on them that are worth my time and money?
Pathless is only getting it's physical version on the PS5
Demon's Souls Remake is good
Bandai Namco is going to start re-releasing all the old tales games starting with Tales of Destiny and Tales of Eternia of which either will run you over 100 bucks for the original PS1 versions so getting both for 40 bucks is not bad.
A new Mana game is in the works and after Trials of Mana there are now pretty good expectations
Balan Wonderworld is from the same people who did Nights on the Sega Saturn
Final Fantasy 16 is looking to be a very interesting mainline title because they seem to be copying Dragon's Dogma and Monster Hunter.
We could be getting a third Monster Hunter World for PS5, there's stuff from Rise's PC port data that suggests there's asset re-use already in the works.
There's also those rumors of an actual Shadow of Colossus sequel.

To put it in perspective, the PS4 didn't have this much going for it at the same point in time after it's launch. Bloodborne was a long ways off.

I have never before seen such a lackluster console launch.

There are no games on the Xbox Series X that can't just be played on an Xbox One. The big PS5 exclusive seems to be a remake of a PS3 game. I'd rather just get a newer PC and maybe a PS5 in a couple of years when it has a price cut and comes with a game.

Or hell, maybe just a good deal on a PS4 Pro from someone upgrading to a PS5. This generation's probably going to have an extra-long transition time thanks to backwards compatibility and the entire planet's economy crashing super hard.
Buying the last gen stuff as the new gen comes out has been how I got a PS3 (I had a 360) and a Xbox (I had a PS2).

That said, I have no reason to buy a PS4 or a Xbone. Get ready for an ice cold take, but I see this as a problem for consoles going forward. They've ditched plug-and-play convenience for patches, firmware updates, and phone like incremental upgrades, but without embracing the open, anything goes ideals of PC. Meaning you get the worst of both.

All that leaves are exclusives. Exclusives that are increasingly bad. Only Nintendo has exclusives worth a damn, but Nintendo fans buy Nintendo and nothing else. Plus Nintendo consoles are underpowered, which would be fine if third parties had reason to release anything other than last gen ports.

I think consoles are going to continue to degrade. We'll have the regular headlines about record sales and sold out in 8 minutes and blah blah blah, but they're going to keep losing ground in terms of relevance.

The only ways I can see for consoles to matter again.
1. They go back to plug and play, run off the disc convenience for a cheap price point. This will mean dropping 8k 144hz parity bullshit that no one should care about at this point. Have games that run at 1080p, with graphics that are good enough for the gameplay. Sacrifice the cutting edge for a system that works and try to get quality games on it that don't cost a fortune to produce. Not going to happen as long as graphics whores continue to expect a £250 console to perform at the same level as a custom built £5000 PC.

2. Drop exclusivity entirely and adopt the 3DO and CDI model. Get all the major publishers and hardware makers together every 5-10 years to decide on the standards for that generation. Like controller layout, minimum ram, etc. Then have electronics companies make generic games media players. MS and Sony can still use the "Playstation" and "Xbox" branding if they want, but they'll be generic. Games will have a badge on them declaring what standard of machine you need to run the game. From there, you leave it to the free market. Not going to happen because companies want control.

Conversely everything on Switch you've already played on PS2, wii, wiiU, 3DS, Vita, etc...

Also lmao at this thread saying Bloodborne and Demon's Souls are reasons to buy a game console.

i thought the modern gamer couldnt prove themselves any more fucking retarded after a generation of buying into unfinished games lootboxes and digital only with no discounts

but then they went and bought consoles that either had absolutely no launch exclusives (xbox) or their only launch exclusive being a fucking graphical remake of a souls game.

"b b b but miles morales on ps5 has ray tracing!"

fuck off with that ray tracing shit it isnt worth 500 dollarydoos when the game is also on ps4

Last of us part 3
After Part 2 shit the bed so fucking hard, it steadily LOST sales? Lol no. Cuckmann may revel in his (fraudulent) GOTY awards and TLOU TV show (which, let's not kid ourselves, is what he wanted all along) all he likes, but the fact of the matter is, his shitty sequel failed to resonate with gamers, which = less money. Less money = no sequel for Ellie and Trans-Joel Abby.

I was gonna say Xbox for new Halo, but then I remembered it’s coming out for PC anyway

I thought Halo Infinite was delayed until early 2021. I thought like...maybe Jan/Feb but expected a second delay until March/April.

Imagine my surprise when I found out the killer app for Xbox Series X was delayed a whole fucking year.

If that isn't a sign that Microsoft views Game Pass as its thing and not the actual console, I don't know what does.

And if that is the case, why wouldn't you just go with PC?

(I should also mention I'm expecting a damn near Cyberpunk level of fucked up, as a full year delay 3 months before the game means shit is getting majorly reworked in a rush)

Yeah idk what this trend is with these hyped releases being fucking rushed. It’s almost like these companies coast off the hype for three years and then rush to finish their projects at the last minute.

Anyway, I’m a simp for the Halo franchise so I’ll buy it regardless of the release date. I won’t buy a new Xbox for it, but I will buy it.

New consoles are just "upgrades" and obviously the PS5 is getting it's Street Fighter Turbo/Super treatment soon-ish by the time i bought one.

I'd rather want the GAMES to have a solid code than a console who's brute forcing themselves to make them smooth.

I'll spend the 5 bucks for gamepass I guess. Mostly cause I know my friend will want to play it.

I'm not expecting Halo Infinite to be something I don't enjoy, but I'm expecting high salt levels from fanboys. This whole thing reeks of Halo 5 all over again and I enjoyed that game for what it was but enjoyed the fans bitching constantly even more.

There's just no way they gotta delay it a whole damn year just because some folks memed on the graphics. And if that is the case, Microsoft should have expected this shit from insisting all their games be cross generational for the first two years.

Yeah, H5 wasn’t that bad tbh. It was def better than H4. That thing was a certified shit-show. Halo 5 had an awful campaign, but Warzone was fun af. Also, Halo fanboys might be the most autistic, myself included.

im going to go out on a limb and guess halo infinite had really really shitty live service elements.

i think the initial delay was simply stated to be 2021 right? the one back in august? probably the idea was to give it 3-4 months of better graphics and polish.

then they either had some focus groups come in or they saw the bomb that was avengers and realized they had a fucking mess on their hands. guarantee there was probably minimal set pieces and minimal story. probably a lot of bullshit raid missions and a lot of boring warthog riding to objective locations. it probably didnt have a good conclusion so that they could set up "seasons" since they said from the start it was going to be a continual live service, right?

they realized that along with the graphics this would fucking kill halo. thats why suddenly a few weeks ago its revealed its delayed until fall 2021. theyre going to rush an actual campaign into this and probably try to make the open world less boring to traverse id assume.

didnt the same shit happen with halo 5? like they wanted it to have a more open map structure but they couldnt get it to work or something which caused them to completely rework the game at the last minute. thats why all of the pre release hype promotion didnt match the game at all?

sony and ms are fucking retarded and dont plan shit out at all. to buy one of their consoles today is just pure fucking fanboy consoomer autism.

Well yeah you're not just going to stick with one game forever and more stuff is going to come out. It's a starting point.

Feel bad for the people who dropped a grand or so on a new gaming PC just specifically for Cyberpunk.
