New World - The newest flavor of the month.

There have been numerous reports of a lag switch-like exploit to the game, which some people have been intentionally abusing, during wars. Does Amazon not have a way to hotfix in fixes, like Blizzard does in World of Warcraft?
Ah, so not only can they mass report to ban people they can lag switch? This is more incompetent than EA's attempts at MMOs.

As if the game couldn't get any worse, there's also an exploit to make your character invincible. Who even play tested this game, if any actual play testing was done to begin with?

Probably the same team that released a game so bad it got unreleased.

How does one do this exploit? Asking for a friend

Really gets me that the people in charge of Amazon Games makes one of their first major games a freaking PC MMO, the biggest of gambles in the industry. Even one of the most experienced studios Square Enix fucked up with the initial release of Final Fantasy 14.

If I were in charge, I'd have the studio make reasonably budgeted Action RPG which are the closest in terms of design to an MMO. If that game turned out decent then you begin an MMO.

It's the equivalent to trying to make a damn yacht when you're a shipbuilding company that doesn't have the crew or blueprint makers ready to be sure it all comes together. Why wouldn't you make something smaller first?

I don't know if anyone follows The Act Man. I wouldn't blame you if you didn't.

But he apparently gave New World a review and gave it his highest rating of Awesome, but also the review was sponsored by New World. His fans correctly called him out on this bullshit and he went back and changed it from a review to a "first impression" since he only played like 15 hours I guess and most of his complaints were just "it's got all the problems all the MMO's have."

Can't wait to see what other people they pay to review their game.

makes me think that this game is some sort of a tax exempt scheme or something considering how intentionally fucked up things are

A couple of months from now: "Why is New World SO BAD?!"

Didn't CDPR do the same thing with Cyberpunk 2077? I guess these ethics in games people are easily bought with thirty pieces of silver. I guarantee you Jimquisition the biggest ancap on YouTube would easily do a 180 on microtransactions and call them fair if he was offered 50 grand.

scrolled for a bit...found plenty of bitching about the report system and this gem. Turns out mixing light/heavy attacks between 3 skills/6 total with two weapons isnt that interesting.
Who knew copy ESO's combat system but not only halving the amount of skills you can use, but disabling weapon switching if any skill is on cooldown isn't a good idea?
Seriously ESO's combat would be so fucking good if weaving it wasn't such a "stack DoT's and LA" thing, like maybe have more "Do X and FUCK OFF SKILL is available" and allow toggleables to be permanently on regardless of the weapon slot you're on, specially for werewolf transformation + angry bear purposes.

And for the love of fuck, remove the class system on ESO and just give everyone every class skill, this shit is fucking stupid and class balancing is fucking impossible.

ya ESO's combat/skill system is interesting but the game feels flat and then PVP is just like...crazy to try and counter.

The biggest problem is that Zenimax is trying to balance PvP with PvE, even Squeenix knew that was fucking stupid.
And this retarded cucking to the PvPers has lead to them being entitled, to the point that any purple PvE venture (ie. companions) gets shafted and the community goes "lol git gud" instead of "I spent 30 bucks for this useless hooker, I'd rather just jack myself off, tf is this."

its funny because i literally only play ESO for the time i did because more exploration in Elder Scrolls Lore. It was fun for a bit but then reality sets in and it's annoying lol

I actually like the combat now, since I figured out a niche build (that I no doubt believe will be nerfed if I ever say it) and am waiting for the next patch so that the whole stamina/magicka matters a fuckton meta is destroyed by making sets all 100% hybird sets - after the patches to make race and armor skills universal.

And the main draw of ESO without PvP is the exploration, which is good for my need to jew the entire crafting economy.
So far, I think I've lowered the prices for materials by 20% I want to make it all 1g and then just buy everything up.
I just really wish combat was better, and it WAS so much better back then (literally every "fix" I suggested was part of combat a long time ago but got nerfed because PvP reasons - fuck they used to have traits that increased attack speed).

That's one thing I really fucking hate about ESO, you're gatekeeped from every pve content patch unless you go with some autistically specific build where there's literally no leeway at all. Hate using the ability dark spirit because it's hard to keep track of? Too bad you need that extra x amount of dps. I have to keep switching gear sets literally every patch no matter how hard to obtain those gear sets are and at that point I just said fuck it and swore off pvp and pve content for good. It doesn't help that the world building of ESO clashes horrendously with all the other installments, but that's a way off topic discussion.

because something smaller wouldn't generate the revenue they want and bind people to your platform.

find better people to play with, really. no content besides some bleeding edge hardmode stuff really requires those numbers, and the biggest retards are still found in randoms. no guild I've ever been in made a stink about dps unless it was new vet trials or hm runs where it was dragging the rest down). of course there is an amount you have to hit to beat it, but then it becomes a numbers game in groups where one does more one does less (for the most part, there are a few fights where you have to bring enough individual dps, but even then there's still room to maneuver). you also need to understand the mechanics, I've seen plenty of retards in vet randoms that could bring the numbers but constantly died to stupid shit, and dead dps doesn't do any dps.
zos is also one of the few who actually are smart enough to understand their own system to nerf the grind. the scrapbook is a fucking godsend while providing another carrot to collect stuff (and on top of that next patch adds loot prioritizing items you're still missing, which essentially means you only have to farm each content a specific number if times). if you have collected a whole set reconstruction is free (you still have to spend the 25 crystals, but you those back when you deconstruct it). plus the improvement mats of course, but half the sets already come in purple anyway.

the lore stuff is overblown, sure the crystal tower is not made out of actual crystals, but as long as it's internally consistent (which it is for the most part) I can live with it.

on the flipside pvpers constantly get shit on because their autism and whining affects everyone, which is why no one gave a shit when they were crying about proc sets being disabled and other stuff, and now over time they got their own sets to collect and zos trying to split it. the thing is zos is extreeeeeeeeeeeeemly slow, not stupid.
companions are also just a way to sell you future companions in the store. dlc for now was always self-containt, so I doubt we'll ever see another companion in another dlc since it would require blackwood. they were also never supposed to replace other players, be it pve or pvp.

The game seems alright when you boot it up for the first time but all of the flash quickly fades away and it gets really god damn fucking repetitive.
I know that it's an MMO and the genre is known for pointless grinding but I've found myself doing almost the same quest back to back. There is very little variability in the types of quests.
You also have to walk quite a distance to get to any of the quests which is a huge waste of time.
You can do mining, cutting down trees or harvesting plants but it's very repetitive. You just walk up to the thing you want to collect, an animation plays and there is a bar. At least with fishing there is a minigame associated with it.

I'm only level 27 and I'm already feeling like I'll be a huge chump if I continue to play this game. It's just so goddamned repetitive and I don't get excited to log in anymore. I do want to at least give it a go getting to end game content to see what that is all about but I'm unsure if it'll be worth the time investment. I've got a gaming headset arriving in the mail and I'm going to try to join a company and quest together with some people. Maybe the game gets a lot better with friends, idk.
Let me save you time: there is no endgame. Just broken pvp and portals you’ll never be able to enter because of how gate kept they are.

While this is unfortunately normal for games nowadays, the majority of the playerbase has yet to reach the peak of autism that is late game PVP and the meta. I expect more drops as people realize that there is currently no reason to play in the lategame other than to grind reputation/gold and bonk some other players.

It's worth point out that this will happen in literally any game. Rapid Adoption followed by a freefall player count. The goal for an MMO is to pull out of that freefall into a sustainable playerbase. GTA 5 lost 5/6 of it's playerbase in the first 3 months, according to SteamDB.

It's not a sprint, it's a marathon. Of course, that applies to the cheers when it hit 900k too, because it may never reach 900k again.
