I didn't address the Blue collar White dems because they largely only give a shit about restoring the economy and increasing the amount of industrial, working class jobs. Meh, the story is pretty similar across all of the rust belt cities when it comes to that. They all follow the same formula:

1. Democrats run the city into the ground after decades of control
2. Outside investments come in to buy up the scraps cheap
3. Breweries and coffee shops open so the hipsters rebelling against mommy and daddy can feel safe walking their sweater-vested chihuahuas around in a small safe section
4. Trendy fashion mags and local newspapers claim the city has rebounded

What people don't see is just how small the trendy pockets are in relation to the overall city. For instance, Detroit is geographically huge. You can literally fit Manhattan, Boston and San Francisco inside the city borders and have room left over.

These little red circles are where the people who talk about how great the city is actually live and work. The rest is uh, not inhabitable for most civilized humans. As you can see, that is a lot of wasteland that they pretend doesn't exist.

I don't know shit about Fuentes so I can't speak to where he thinks his base would come from. But for reference, Hamtramck isn't labeled here but would basically be around the south part of Boston on this map, and Dearborn is outside of city limits bordering what would be the western tip of Manhattan. Then you have somewhat sizeable pockets of Muslims north of Detroit in the suburbs. Keep in mind this is real Muslims, not the Nation of Islam cult which also has a sizeable presence in the city, since it was founded there (by a white guy, interestingly enough).

The blue collar (formerly Democrat) whites mostly live northeast of the city in Macomb County, south of the city in the Downriver area, and in some of the suburbs to the West. And then there is all the money in Oakland County which is on the Northwest border of the city and has a lot of Jewish deli's.

None of this will be interesting to most people, but the reason it fascinates political operatives is because other than the black people who inhabit the mass wastelands of Detroit and who continue to overwhelmingly vote for the same people & policies as ever - all of the other groups/areas mentioned above have essentially flipped Party allegiance over the last 10-15 years. This is what makes it a political bellwether since the pundits think this will play out everywhere else if it hasn't already.
