What is going on in Nick's life that he needs to go back to hitting the nitrous again?
It doesn't even have to be any one thing. I'd like to propose to everyone that for individuals with polysubstance dependence (cocaine, alcohol, and inhalants), the probability of achieving sustained abstinence on a first serious attempt is estimated at 10–20%. When modeling a co-dependent couple, joint success rates decrease significantly due to relapse interdependence, giving us an estimated probability of approximately 1–3% under TYPICAL conditions. When extended to long-term abstinence without relapse, the probability that both individuals successfully quit and remain abstinent for life likely falls below 2%.

None if this is set in stone data, it's just what I could compile to the best of my ability (Asking AI to give me the percentage statistics given all these variables and then mix it all together), but what is set in stone is that he's doing this the worst way possible, by having a second tacked on addict with him AND not abstaining from intoxicants in their entirety. Just think, even if this data is too conservative, he has a good maybe 6%-8% chance to actually not fuck his life up worse in the next year? It's crazy to think about just how stacked the deck is from his own making.

a side note about nitrous oxide:

It's a highly social party drug. When celebration time rolls around you get yourself a whole case of it, grab a bunch of homies, and cheese out together until it's gone. That's a big part of the Fun of getting blasted on it.

You basically have to be a fully isolated Trust Fundie Junkie to get all Nick-like with it, cheesing out while you argue on Twitter.

It’s pretty crazy that she would continue to enable him, especially if it’s true that it was responsible for him “forgetting how to walk”. What the fuck bitch?
If Kayla was smart I'd say she's trying to slowly kill him so she can take everything without a divorce, but she's not so she's just giving into whatever Nick wants.

If I had to guess, Nick probably guilted her into thinking this whole thing is her fault.

That all assumes he actually ever wanted to stop to begin with. Since his arrest we've heard nothing but "Drugs are just fine. I never had a problem with them, I actually just got cooler while I was using them" along with him in his whippits arc and being pretty suspiciously drunk-appearing on several streams not too long ago. Nick never wanted to stop and never saw there ever being a problem with drugs to begin with. The fact that Kayla is going along with him to the store to pick up his nitrous also goes to show that if she ever wanted to stop then she's pretty clearly given up on it.

Guys the answer is easier. It's because this way Kayla bought the stuff so he can deny buying it when asked. Edit: just like I'm sure he transferred all his guns and other things he can't have to her.

Once again, Kayla has lost a LOT of weight in a VERY short period of time. She is barely eating. I couldn’t find the picture I was looking for, but the last time she had caved in cheekbones and this cartoonish chest-to-waist ratio was when she and Nick were on drugs and the marriage was falling apart. History is repeating itself.
Consider what Kayla looked like on December 9th, 2025 to May 2026:
