I’m not going to call it good strategy and would hope a lawyer is being sought. That said, there is decent irony here. He was also a judge for a domestic violence court (potentially inclined to appreciate Nick's rage over "harm" done to his "lady"), a public defender, and a criminal defense attorney. But also as a man likely around 50, Nick might think him better than an older woman (who last year also joined JAMS, which oversees arbitration and mediation efforts) who might not find the funny in boys just being boys when harassing/ wishing death on each other, or might be less likely to sympathize with online "hijinks."
