Nickelodeon is bringing back "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader" with new host John Cena, who will also executive produce.

The original game show was hosted by stand-up comedian Jeff Foxworthy and aired on the Fox broadcast network. "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader" was created by Mark Burnett and hails from MGM.

The format of "5th Grader," which has been adapted in several countries, sees adult contestants answer questions as if they came from an elementary grade school quiz. There were actual (smart) fifth graders on stage to help out, or to make the adult look dumb — sometimes both.

The first "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader" aired from 2007 to 2015, over which Foxworthy amassed 111 episodes. In 2010, the show was nominated for — but did not win — a Daytime Emmy Award.

Nick is dropping a ton of news this morning. The kids' network is also planning several "SpongeBob SquarePants" spinoffs and reviving "All That" with original cast member and breakout star Kenan Thompson ("Saturday Night Live") as executive producer. That sketch comedy show also expects to bring back other original cast members.

Additionally, Nickelodeon has acquired the rights to develop TV series based on Paddington Bear and the recent "LEGO" movies.

There's nothing more obnoxious than "smart" kids on TV. Fiction, non-fiction, it doesn't matter, it's guaranteed to be obnoxious and shockingly stupid.

The premise of the show is inherently flawed. Of course an adult is smarter than a 5th grader because an adult has a fully developed brain while a child does not. The contest is not actually about who is smarter, but merely about who can remember the most stuff from the 5th grade curriculum.

The show should be called: Can a adult remember something they learned 20-30 years ago better than a 5th grader can remember something they learned last week?

That's a fairly accurate description, except you forgot lots of stuff is new garbage they teach kids so the adults never even "learned" it.

I guess it's not even just the kids that are annoying. It's the fawning adults "Oh wow kids are so smart wow". I think it's really the same annoyance as most things... the display of a complete lack of critical thinking skills and automatically accepting any nonsense that comes their way.

You guys are using a lot of words to admit those kids would run circles around you.
