Nier Automata

Actually I found there were a few limitations with the dodge, the "phase-dodge" only seems to come in occasionally when the game absolutely knows the connecting attack is going to suck. It doesn't work so well against other more regular enemies and bosses either. You spend a lot of time spamming both the dodge and the jump and I've wound up doing that a fricken lot in this game.

That was pretty much the running advice I've seen for this game. "Jump and dodge like you're an ape on acid."

C, D, E.
Those final twists at the end, Jesus fucking Christ. Definitely gonna replay this at some point since that revelation of YoRHa expecting 9S to snoop around and uncover their bullshit and having 2B/2E keep an eye on him so he can be reset once he knows too much could easily explain why I thought that 2B sometimes seemed to say whatever she wanted.

Oh, and I'll let this picture speak for Ending E:

Trying to play through on hard mode and I'm getting my ass kicked by this naked androgynous desert boss robot. Either I suck or this game has some tough boss battles.

If you already have the missile pod, I spent the whole battle dodging his attacks and blasting him. I had inadvertently used all of my healing stuff in the run up ton that fight.

Arby's Twitter account is the stuff of legends.

Someone needs to archive these. When we pack all of our artwork and cultural icons into a safe, I want the Arby's gaming references to survive the apocalypse.

like that fucking jackass who challenges you to races or you get thrown into an encounter with multiple enemies far outleveling you...

I found a way to cheese that battle by going ISIS and self-destructing in the middle of the crowd of robots.

I just got Ending A and honestly...I'm disappointed.

This isn't the game I was expecting it to be. I know its not the end of the game yet and there's still more story to tell, but even the original Nier had a satisfying first ending. This ending doesn't feel satisfying at all and the game feels largely rushed and unfinished. For example, I don't think enough time was spent between the characters for
2B to care as much as she does about 9S. I feel as if the ending was contrived. I can't take her care of 9S seriously when so little time was spent between them and they barely talked to each other.
This isn't at all like Papa Nier's interactions with Kaine and/or Weiss. Those characters talked a lot throughout the series and learned more and more about each other as they spent time with one another, and reason was given for why the characters acted the way they did.
Emil's suffering felt real.
Here its all just....I couldn't feel anything for these characters. It wasn't sad. Taro games are supposed to depress me. I can't take these character interactions seriously in Automata. And I didn't even know I was at the final boss of the game once I got to it. I don't even know what the plot of this game was for Ending A.

Also gameplay wise, I feel like there weren't enough fun bosses. The fights against all the big robots were really fun, but the fights against Adam and Eve were boring and dull and largely just spent standing away shooting at them until they die while dodging their attacks. They're so small they're unimpressive to look at, and they didn't do any really crazy attacks to make them interesting. I wanted more fights like the opera boss or the kaiju.

Not to spoil anything, but ending A isn't the true end of the game. You need to play through it like 4 more times to get endings B, C, D and E to get the true ending. And all the playthroughs play out differently depending on which character you are (2B, 9S or A2). 2B's route is pretty much the superficial level of the game, it really takes off in Route C.

Also did you do all of Emils quest line? You end up with two boss fights with him that expand greatly on his story from Nier, and it's pretty heavy shit

I will agree though the pod dialogue absolutely falls short compared to Grimoire Weiss in Nier. I don't know why they choose to make the pods so boring after how popular weiss was. They even made a neat little DLC skin for him in the game.

Yeah, 2B's behaviour doesn't make much sense if you just go for Ending A, but seeing how Squeenix throws a splash screen your way telling you that there's still more coming your way...

I think it mostly comes down to structure. The point at which Nier ends in its first ending is the same as for all the other endings, whereas in Automata's case it's "A and B end at the halfway point, C, D, E take off from there". As for the emotional punch, I saw somebody describe it along the lines of "it doesn't hit you as hard as the original most of the time, but when it does land a hit, it really hits".

also, to add a point for the disappointed man;

Automata has a significant amount of its story and plot info in sidequests, unlike the first Nier where you only really got individual character stories/random sadness or world details
you won't know very much about what's going on after ending A/B if you don't do a large amount of sidequests, and a lot of them aren't even available to you until you're going for ending B.

B helps you understand the plot you weren't understanding in A, and then the game takes off like a fucking rocket afterwards and it all starts coming together.
unlike the first nier, you don't replay the same content past ending b. and ending b isn't the same gameplay as ending a.

Did anyone else feel emotionally devastated when the full context of 2B saying, "it always ends this way" at the end of route A? I had to sit back and wallow in feels for a few moments when I found out.

Just finished Ending A and the tutorial for B.
Really enjoying the hell out of it, and I went in completely blind of any type of spoilers, so it's been a lot of fun finding out everything( didn't play Nier, but watched the Super Best Friends LP of it).

Finally stopped being poor and lazy and got a copy of this game. Dis gun b gud. From what I gathered, the game makes you think it's a traditional RPG with hack n slash combat, only to fuck your brain's ass with 8200 nigger cocks and leave it on the floor, used and abused like the dumb whore that it is

Just finally played this in November and greatly enjoyed it. Speedrun of route A's a fun watch too because apparently the self-destruct feature.. wasn't tested very well, to say the least.

Required listen once you've finished a-e:
