Sounds like he'll be found guilty on everything, so the question now is if he gets life, or capital punishment.
 
Guilty on all charges, and it looks like it's life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Really should've been the death penalty.
 
Cruz already pleaded guilty. This was the penalty phase with the death penalty on the table.

The jury returned a verdict of life in prison. Sentencing is on November 1st.

Surely if you're going to have the death penalty on the books this is the sort of situation where you would absolutely use it?

Either way, he'll die in prison, likely be in protective custody for being such a high profile case.

Very good chance this.

They had him dead to rights, but pleading guility and saying "he's sorry" dramatically increases the odds one of the soccer moms on the jury will take pity.

100% should have gotten the needle in the arm. This is exactly the time and place the death penalty should be used. There is absolutely no question he did it and it was premeditated.

The jury found aggravating factors on every count. But every count was made LWOP because of the "one or more jury members found a mitigating factor(s)" question, and therefore no death sentence could be passed due to lack of unanimity.

Also his young age probably played a role too. I doubt anyone would show pity to a 30something who killed 17
