Nintendo discussion thread

I don't blindly worship them or anything, in fact they were basically dead to me for a full decade, didn't like the Wii much, skipped the Wii U.

But the Switch has brought back some of the magic, Breath of The Wild and Super Mario Odyssey were so fucking good.

Something was lost after the Gamecube era though, I like the Switch despite the portability, I wish we could just get another console from them that isn't in some way under powered to account for some big gimmick, it's extremely depressing to think there may never be another Nintendo game on cutting edge hardware like the Gamecube days, remember how impressive Metroid Prime and Wind Waker looked at the time?

Still, Breath of The Wild and Super Mario Odyssey are as good as anything else they've ever put out, so not all hope is lost, I do wish their lawyers weren't such dicks though.

I still emulate games from the SNES, Gameboy/DS and Gamecube libraries but I shifted attention elsewhere after how terrible the 3DS and Wii was.

Apparently Capcom may be dropping support for the Switch if what they said at TGS is true. None of their games sold well at all on the platform and they can't allocate further resources to help solve the switch's numerous bottlenecks when it comes to performance.

So now Nintendo exceptional individuals are screaming CAPCOM WAS NEVER GOOD

Assuming it's true, cant say I'm surprised by this turn of events.
The weebs who bought a Switch as a reactionary attempt to give a middle finger to Sony got screwed the hardest so far, due of this silly idea that japanese games would be saved on Nintendo. The Tokyo Game Show has also shown interesting games that were only on PS4 between Shin Sakura Taisen, Ys 9, Oneechanbara Origins and Yakuza 7. Admittedly I suspect them to be ported on PC later on which would be very nice, the thought is no longer far-stretched since the Yakuza games and Super Robot Wars appeared on Steam.

I say this as a fan through and through, but Nintendo is the definition of 3 steps forward 2 steps back (sometimes more like 4 steps back). They've made some of the most critically acclaimed titles in the history of the industry, have made the childhoods of countless millions, and to this day generally can be relied upon to deliver quality experiences.

On the other hand however, on top of their ravaging copyrighting lawyer sperging as many have already pointed out, they were directly responsible for the worst era of gaming with the damn Wii, to this day can't do online correctly to save their fucking lives (and now have the utter gall to charge people for it), keep fucking people over with 20+ year-old games with how they can never make up their minds on how they want to sell them (Virtual Console/mini retro console fad/subscription service) and they're always overpriced, their evergreen titles NEVER go down in price, and in a recent bizarre twist of fate the old claim of "Made of Nintendium" has fallen apart with the multiple fiascos the Switch has been plagued with.

Could jot down more examples but I've thrown up enough of a text wall. I'll always hold Nintendo close to my heart like the sperg I unashamedly am, but not for a single second will I ever pretend they're perfect and not riddled with flaws.

Sony made a deal with Sega about Sakura Wars, considering how fucking long Sakura Wars lasted in japan with no new media it's probably a good investment.

It's all new girls and they look like Version 2.0 of established characters abit(which won't be a major thing in the west since we only got Gemeni's Team), but they nailed the fucking theme song.

Sakura Wars establishing itself in the west will be a good thing. This also leaves the last two Sega RPG franchises to be revived Skies of Arcadia and Panzer Dragoon.

I'm sad that now all I have is this meh computer and a Nintendo Switch to run games. The switch is like putting vaseline over a screen and playing the game like that.

they were directly responsible for the worst era of gaming with the damn Wii,

Not solely Nintendo though, Sony also dropped the ball with the PS3.

You're right though that the 7th gen was the worst era of gaming, what a nightmare it was living through that, I was so happy when that gen mercifully ended.

Although to be fair it wasn't that bad, there were still plenty of standout titles, but it was a step down from the generation before it and this gen, despite having some flaws of its own, has been a marked improvement.

Ps3s and Xbox 360s are literally ticking time bombs any model of the PS3 and Xbox 360 can get their respective ring/lights of death
I know this cause I wanted to get a 360 or PS3 a while ago.... Somehow I guess since the newer models are starting to get old there's been posts popping up that people's newer consoles have been dieing.

Fuck, I didn't even think about the fact that the consoles had a habit of dying, there was another thing that sucked about that gen.

How’s Daemon X Machina? I’ve heard mixed things, but game critics have never really understood mech games, and there’s so much shit coming out that it honestly wasn’t my radar.

My less then 2 hours played snap opinion is that it's a lot like armored core except not anywhere near as difficult because most minor enemies drop ammo and there are health stations all over the map. It's entirely possible they'll throw enough shit at you to make it rough later in the game though.

Wait until your controllers goes bad after a few months.

But as far as the games goes, they're good, but it feels like Nintendo is reinventing the wheel right now.

I wasn't really planning on getting a Switch, but I'm kind of being forced to to play the next SMT game. I still emulate a ton of the older Nintendo systems though, there's some great trainwrecks and hidden gems in there.

The Switch pretty much was gathering dust up from day one until maybe two or three months ago, now I'm playing it pretty much every day, though it's mostly just old shit like Phantasy Star and Out Run while I'm killing time.

I just wish Nintendo would drop gimmicks and just release an honest to God console because while the slowdown in Link's Awakening isn't game breaking, it's pretty abysmal that something that looks like a brightly lit indie PS3 title stutters like this.

im sad Daemon X Machina wasn't very good

I was waiting for it for so heckin long

The artbook that came with Switch Link's Awakening was better and longer than the game itself.

Also Switch lites are all confirmed to have bad joycons 100% of the run has the unfixed joycons that will go bad after a few weeks of use. But you can't switch them out like you can a normal switch you need to send the whole system back to nintendo for a replacement.

Nintendo also can't make a new mechanism or a simple revision, their whole tech for the joycons are flawed. They're literally the solar roads of game controllers because everything in the guts is light sensitive and dust and friction of the moving parts wrecks the sensor strips.

The Pro Controller has none of that bullshit and is a whole different mechanism for it's sticks.

I have a theory that they intentionally made the joycons flawed so that you would shell out $70 for a pro controller
