Nintendo discussion thread

I remember there was talk early on of being able to use two Gamepads which never came to fruition, which makes it even more baffling that you could never just buy another pad on its own. Speaking of the Gamepad itself though, what a stupid design. The public image of Nintendo being a kid-only company was bad enough, then they had to go and make the main controller of their new system look like a toddler's toy with its massive bulky shape. Comparing it to the Switch is like looking at those "Doctors hate him!" weight loss ads.

The one nice thing I'll say about the Gamepad was how it was lighter than it looks, and was surprisingly comfortable to hold. That's about it, though. Yeah, it really did look like a toddler's My First Switch compared to the actual Switch.

My eyes would have gone wide at this comment but I lost my eyesight years ago and have relied on text-to-speech for most of my internet dealings.

On a completely unrelated topic, I really loved the Virtual Boy. Any VB fans here?
I figured someone might point that out but that wasn't really a home console, they marketed it as if it were a portable which I mean it technically is since it's battery-powered, but you can't use it outside of sitting at a table or laying on a bed.

And, well, yeah, I really liked Wario Land VB. Very good game and it's a shame it never got a remaster for the 3DS.

Wario Land was great. I am still pushing for a re-release of Red Alarm - that game was fucking brilliant. Jack Bros. was okay but I think people only really care about that one because it's so rare.

Yo... fucking Red Alarm.

Funny thing about the Wii Virtual Console.

A good portion of the roms got officially ported to the Super Retrocade which was put out by Retrobit.

The Wii VC ports of all the capcom games including the final fight trilogy all made their way on there. Data East's VC ports are also present.

So yeah you can buy these games in a physical form at least.

Current status of my Switch controllers:

Joy-cons: left is slightly drifting, right is drifting more drastically, it's almost getting bad enough to push me into calling Nintendo
PowerA BotW chrome blue controller: left stick drifts downwards, unplayable, should check to see if it's still under warranty
Official pro controller: still fine but when I went to play tonight my battery was completely flat
Gamecube adapter: can't fuck that up faggots

They had it coming, with those Mario & Luigi remakes.
If they were having that much money problems those might have been the cheapest options, not that it ended up helping in the end.

I am torn between saving for a switch or waiting for project X cloud.

I'm very sick of having to rely on a TV for gaming. I've to share it, and even buying a new one doesn't solve the lack of privacy. The switch lite has a lot of hardware issues, and it's a pain to get repairs in my country, but it's so cheap on ebay ,I'm super tempted to take the risk. It looks like a dream being able to play Skyrim and BoTW on the go.

But I'm also, very likely, moving to an area with high crime, so project X cloud is also tempting. At least, if those motherfucker thieves steal my tablet, they will only have a bricked useless tablet due to icloud. And I can just game in another device.

Drift is extreme and will ruin your game, do not get a lite.

Thanks for the heads up.

It's a huge shame. I really wanted to buy it, but with the joycon drift issue, I am screwed. At least in America they're offering free repairs. But if I use ebay, they will fuck me over and refuse to repair it because it's from another country, unless I mail someone in America and they manage the repairs and then send it back to me (lol as if I could do that).

Guess Project Xcloud is my best hope to get rid of the need of a TV (I really rally hate needing a tv). That or until Nintendo releases a fixed version in a year or so.

Nintendo screwed up big time. I was very tempted, but this issue just kills it for me.

why the fuck are you shelling out money for games and not guns with which you slay your enemies a la Duck Hunt

I know you jest, but If I'm going to waste money I rather it be on games.

Incidentally, I wonder if Xcloud will be available on the Nintendo switch. I can see Nintendo not wanting it because it would compete with it's store. But they might too as it would also add a lot of value to the switch. People would be playing Halo in a Nintendo system.

We will see.

This is what happens when there's no direct for six months, the Nintendo thread dies.

Direct was a few days ago. Of the games shown off, I'll get Xeno and might pick the boardgame pack up if its cheap. Maybe even get it digital if the digital price falls low enough for some bubble-popping fun between big games.

BD2 looks like it has a similar combat system to Octopath, which I disliked, so I'll skip that and I do not care one bit about Smash or Pokemon DLC.

The NES was the best 8-bit console, GBA was a treasure and so was the DS and I always thought that the Wii had a decent design. Also, if you're into emulators then the Wii is really great.

SNES, N64 and Game Cube had decent exclusive games but I don't think that the consoles were particularly great compared with what the competition was offering. The GC gets a pass because the controller was really comfortable. The best SNES games got released in the GBA/other Nintendo consoles so I feel free to dismiss the SNES.

2DS was better than the 3DS which had a really rough release that people no longer seem to remember. The Wii U was a trash fire.

I played Mario Kart on the Switch and it was fun but I really hated the design of the Switch and there's something about the new sequels for classic Nintendo games that I can't seem to like. The new Zelda was well received and I don't doubt that it's a decent game but it killed the franchise for me.

openworld games can be great but Zelda was always the exemplary straight forward action RPG for me and there was nothing that I wanted less than an openworld 3D Zelda game. I didn't like the game visuals and I didn't like how empty the overworld seemed to be. tbh once Zelda got too crazy with its timeline I knew I was in for a disappointment. Link Between The Worlds and the Link's Awakening remake were fun tho.

I like the way that Nintendo markets its stuff (Nintendo Directs are informative and fun to watch) and I appreciate the fact that the nips from the company seem utterly unaffected by the politics in the west.

Nintendo loses points with me because of their insane crusade against roms and emulators tho. Their Virtual Console (or whatever it's called nowadays) service was and still is a mess and I hate when a company full of great IPs keeps their stuff locked in a vault somewhere for no reason. Remakes and rereleases are easy money and those people still manage to fail at it. Don't even get me started on the mini console nonsense that could've gone so much better.

They are still better than a lot of other game companies but that's not that big of an achievement ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
