Is Nintendo trying to have another Nintendo DS moment? If you remember, the DS was meant to be a "third pillar" for the GameCube and Game Boy until the DS proved successful in its own right to outclass the Game Boy. Then, Nintendo started iterating on the DS itself with the DSi, 3DS and NEW 3DS for a number of years.

Of course, the DS had the advantage of being a competent gaming console with little competition, even from smartphones. I'm sure the Switch 2 CAN compete, but the Steam Deck could get Nintendo a run for its money as a handheld gaming system. All it needs to do is to NOT repeat the Wii U's marketing with its familiarity to the original Switch.

I think something that people overlook will be the size of the console, something too big wont be comfortable to carry around.
Most people are used to carry around a laptop or a tablet, so any screen that is still smaller than that will be accepted. Also, most faggots targeted consumers are probably mostly playing at home in their couch or bed, The "play in the public commute to the job/school" is a meme, I legit think nobody actually does that, most people just listen to music or scroll TikTok or Instagram. The Switch is a couch/bed device, if it fits the occation to bring a tablet, then it fits a Switch.

Besides the Joycon mouse thing (which just seems like a gimmick) all of the hardware improvements like the nicer stand or top USB-C port feel like stuff that should have been added in a mid cycle iteration like the DSI or the new 3ds. A new Mario Kart game that looks the exact same as Mario Kart 8 is not remotely impressive enough for me to be interested in it. The mouse gimmick just seems impractical for how small and unergonomic a single joycon is. At that point, you might as well just add mouse and keyboard support. Xbox and Playstaion already have mouse and keyboard support for certain games.

I think so, I consider the Switch 2 to be similar to the 3ds in terms of comparison to its predecessor. It uses the same concept as the original switch, but is still a seperate thing with different hardware (and likely to use at least visually different software). There also appears to be an extra button on the right joycon and what might be an ir sensor on the side that attaches to the console, so there is also the likelyhood of additional features
I wonder if the switch 2 is going to be like the current gen consoles, with people sticking to their older hardware for longer before upgrading, Although looking at nintendo fans I dont think it will be long

Maybe it's Nintendo trying to compete with the Steam Deck? Maybe they'll even sell a keyboard like Sega did for Typing of the Dead. I don't know.

What Nintendo will do is make every title that hasn't been announced for the switch 1 yet completely exclusive to the switch 2 with aggressive marketing & push. Indie devs will jump ship immediately given how they did the same during the 360 transition to the PS4. You don't want to hear how many devs are upset about having to downgrade their games massively to run on ancient tech. There was a big desire to upgrade then, and there will be another now (the last big upgrade for consoles).

Nintendo will also look to secure third party deals too to undermine Sony and pals. While it may look like Nintendo just wants to stay in their own lane, the pal world fiasco imo proves that they're just waiting their time to strike at the perfect moment. If they're willing to go to such lengths to fight a small indie dev studio, who knows how aggressive they're willing to be this time around, especially since they are literally bound by law to have call of duty on their machine for at least 10 years.

The switch 2 cases should also be pretty clear that this is a new system rather than the same old stuff.

Welp it's the switch, but 2. Nintendo still has the creativity of a toddler when naming consoles, it's not like they've already had like 3 systems fail because of people not knowing if it was a new system or just a revision. The controllers really scare me especially those exposed prongs on the system, I could easily see some kid just shoving the controllers on at a bad angle and bending or breaking them. Speaking of controllers what a fucking ugly shade of flesh pink, Including the highlights of color is good in theory but those muted colors are just fucking ass, the bright red blue was great just keep those.
For me a lot of it depends on price and the backward compatability, my switch has been roughed up by toddlers and is only played docked because the joycons drift more than a Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86, so if buying the switch feels like a better investment than buying a third pair of $80 controllers I'll might pick it up. That is only if at least 95% of games are backwards compatible if they do it like Xbox's "backwards compatability" where there a list of a couple hundred that works and a couple thousands you fucked on I wouldn't even bother.

Honestly I just feel "Eh" over this. I feel kind of stunted for being autisti- mostly a Nintendo-only gamer the past decade; I still want an Xbox over any new Nintendo console. That's just me though.

Maybe I've more or less outgrown the big N :/

Xbox 360 (the original model - and by original I mean the Arcade model) is the last good console, tbh. A portable Xbox console would be so great.

This is exactly what will happen. At first I wasn't even sure what the differences were between Switch and Switch 2.

Barring colossal marketing fuckups, like the Wii U, I think those days are over. Today's parents are used to yearly refreshes for phones, and at least understand that a bigger number means something newer.

I looks just like a normal switch but just like 25% bigger, not very exciting. It better be able to display in 4K when docked
