Hasn't Xbox and Sony been doing this for 10+ years now? you buy a physical game, needs 40gig+ download before playable
Don't worry. third parties are still capable of pulling that shit on the Switch 2 as well. Bamco's Shadow Labyrinth requires a 5 GB download. There's some serious fuckery afoot though since there's a size discrepancy between the Switch 2 version of the game and every other version, Switch included.

I've made a similar post before, but since the topic has come up again and game journos are trying their damnedest to sow confusion and nintendo isn't doing the best to clarify, here's the difference between switch 2 upgrades. Note to the retards in the thread, this isn't an endorsement of these prices or even an endorsement of the quality of what's being offered, just a statement of objective reality.

-Basic graphical and performance upgrades (dynamic resolutions always being set to max, stable framerates, resolution/framerate that previously was exclusive to docked mode available in handheld mode, etc)
Free (this includes games which also have the option of a paid upgrade, might require a free patch to be downloaded for some titles)

-Graphical and performance upgrades more consistent with a remaster, minor additional features (this includes things such as the weird zelda gps app or prime 4 having mouse controls)
$10

-Major graphical and performance upgrades, significant additional content
$20

>I consistently act like a dumb autistic retard and people are rating my posts as dumb, autistic, and MATI. Clearly everyone else is the problem!
There's a difference between multiple people rating negatively, and one user going post after post negrating because I dared to insult papa Mario.

Makes you wonder what those types do here rather than groom on Reddit - "Say Nigger and Tranny, but don't you dare call Nintendo bad words".

Do you have a source on this? I haven’t heard anything about games with Switch 2 editions having free updates. Only the dozen or so games announced earlier this month, and they didn’t even specify if those are performance updates or just for stuff like GameShare.

I can't remember exactly offhand, but it was specified that for things like totk, just playing a switch 1 cart on a switch 2 will still make use of the switch 2's power increase to do things like set the dynamic resolution to max and stabilize the framerate.

They're gonna try selling you the pro membership. Just say no unless you're really into buying physical games each month ($5 coupon). Right now they have a pro week going on where you buy 1 game and get another free. It's up to you really.
Got the first preorder for the bundle, paid in full. Was worth it plus I got to see man children fight because someone cut in the middle of the line which was funny

This is honestly very funny. It's almost literally impossible because it would need to beat Switch 1, which will probably barely skim past PS2 itself (assuming they don't release another model). With how things look now there's just no way.
I don't want to be a dick but maybe you should take a break from predicting things

I ended up preordering the MKW Switch 2 bundle and a copy of DK Bananza at my local GameStop, I put down the minimum amount due to low funds but at least that guarantees me the console on release day.

The line I was in had some drama due to GameStop enforcing a “one-console-per-group” rule to curb scalpers and some Eastern European cow threw a bitch-fit over it due to being with her spectacled, Peter Lorre-esque boyfriend at the time.

Oh, and she started to moo at everyone in line about this rule in retaliation.

Nintendo has over 11 billion dollars in the bank and no debts that need to be paid off. They could fuck up so badly they're losing half a billion dollars a year and it would still take 20 years for them to be even close to going bankrupt.
That means the stock would go to shit, but that is a whole another topic about what that would mean for Nintendo, but it wouldn't be good unless they could turn it around like they did like they did with wii u to switch.

But on the topic of console sales, Switch 2 is not going to outsell the Switch 1 unless another covid like event happens, and they have a game like Animal Crossing out right around then. PS2 sales were so hard to beat, because it was the go-to DVD player for a long time, and no physical media format has ever caught on like that since.

Switch 2 is going to clear 100 million units and on every unit they will make a profit on hardware alone. My guess will start off out pacing the Switch 1 sales, then slowly fall behind. PS5 as of late 2024 was at 75million sales, started off outpacing PS4 to slowly fall behind, expect the same here with Nintendo. Worse case right now, if people do say no to buying games at the price Nintendo has set, and in that case, all Nintendo will do is lower the price, much like they did with the 3DS console once it flopped.

As for the console price, Nintendo has no reason to drop it right now; preorders are doing well. What I expect is Christmas 2027 for them to put out a cheaper Switch 2 lite, which is handheld only and will cost around $300, or a home console-only Switch 2 which also costs that if they aren't able to make a Switch 2 lite happen. They will make a worse product cutting features for those that want a Switch 2 cheaper, rather than cut the base model's price.

If you're a Nintendo fan, you should hope that the Switch 2 flops somewhat - Nintendo is at their best when they have to damage control a flop. The Wii U flopping got us BotW and Splatoon.

The thing to remember is that this isn't the Wii U situation. People know what the Switch 2 is and "hardcore" gamers don't have a bad taste in their mouth from the Switch branding like they apparently do with the Wii brand. As long as there's a Mario Kart, Animal Crossing or a Splatoon available, Nintendo will be fine and they know it. Also most people on the Switch didn't have a Wii U like we did, so those games you brought up were brand new experiences to them anyway. Recall that there are a good number of people who still don't that BOTW is a Wii U game in the first place.
"SEE CHUDDY ITS NOT THE WII U THEREFORE ITS SUCCESSFUL."
This is the new tendie gaslight. No one seriously thought it would be the Wii U. I would argue most people figured this would be closer to the 3DS where it struggles outside of Japan. Preorders do well for every system. The PS5 had a better launch than the PS4 and its still struggling to keep parity (and this is with Sony lucking out with China and Korea).

Funny enough, if you look at the 3DS, it's best year was its second year and it peaked everywhere outside of Japan in its first year. The first two fiscal years for the 3DS had higher sales than the DS but it completely fell off after that and can never match the DS's success. The Switch 2 will likely be like that give that there aren't any compelling games after DK and the general disinterest you see from everyone save the tendies.
