I think the system not working without a day one update is bullshit and all, but to be fair to Nintendo, I think you can still download the latest Wii update and previously purchased WiiWare and VC games, so it's likely going to be several decades before you cannot update and there will likely be a way around it by then.

Not saying you guys don't raise good points about various issues. But always assuming the worst isn't helping.

The console doesn't work until a day one patch is pushed. That's all we know. Lighting your hair on fire about the system shutting down at end of life is premature. Let's get through launch. The death camps will surely arrive soonafter.

Reading about it more did the dude put in a Switch 1 or Switch 2 game? I don't think the Switch 2 is a brick day one it's that Switch 1 games required a update Day 1. It looked like the dude didn't have any Switch 2 games just Switch 1 so threw in a Switch 1 game to test it out.

Don't game carts also have firmware on them for updates for the switch 1? If so, can't see Switch 2 carts being any different about having updates on the game carts themselves

Oh god I'm having flashbacks of when PokeBank crashed for fucking MONTHS internationally while japanese players could use it after it got fixed on their end in like a week.

If Nintendo was smart they would be prepared for everyone with a Switch 2 trying to update at once. But they already got your $450 so we'll probably see another "Please understand".
 
Did anyone back the actual video the sites were linking up? Now it's just tons articles linking to a broken link with soyjacks talking about it. Or is that 8 second video of it being opened really what Nintendo copyright struck.

If that's the case, I think that's fairly standard when the "backwards compatibility" is actually emulation. You had to download an update to play original Xbox games on the 360 as well, and that was 20 years ago.

I do think Nintendo is going to try really hard to lock down the Switch 2 after what happened with Wii U, 3DS and Switch, though.

This post on Twitter is still active (archive). The YouTube upload was struck by Web Capio, who are a UK anti-piracy firm that Nintendo appear to have been working with from around ~2021/22.

There isn't anything going on in the video, though I may as well archive it here because fuck pommycunts

This channel before the other video was taken down, showed the Switch 2 being able to play switch 2 games, the firmware update seems to only be for switch 1 emulation
