If the phrase "this game that sold 34.5 million copies, including selling a million 8 years after launch, is popular" sends you into a frothing, seething rage, you simply aren't capable of rational thought and are a tumor upon every conversation you choose to drive the average IQ down by your presence. There's plenty of dogshit that I absolutely despise that's sold 20+ million copies, and while I might think the success is undeserved in many of those cases, I'm not gonna be a delusional 30IQ brown about it and claim that they actually aren't popular at all. Leave the White man's (uppercase I) Internet, and pollute some brown, segregated (lowercase i) internet instead.

If you think that the JC3 wingsuit or JC2 grapnel+suit was at all like the BotW glider (or other gliders that came after BotW) then, speaking as someone who's played both games, you clearly played neither.
I can also point to gliding in games like Ratchet and Clank and Spyro that had progressive loss of momentum rather than a strict stamina meter.

Suffice to say Nintendo did not invent having a stamina meter either.

Have played neither but I can, none the less, assure you that Genshin Impact and Pal World were not thinking of fucking Spyro when implementing their gliding mechanics.

Isn't whether games started ripping off Breath of Wild specifically kind of irrelevant to whether BotW was the first one to actually do the things other games are ripping off from it?

What we are arguing about is his comment about " games who's significance is rapidly eroded by time." BotW remains very relevant, even today, which is why they gave it a Switch 2 tie-in DLC product and demoed it at length during a treehouse stream.

The conversation is confusing to skim through because two different arguments are getting mashed together, which is whether BotW is still relevant and whether other games before BotW had gliding mechanics.

Let me sum up the argument
>BotW has no relevance and dropped off the map almost instantly!
>That's retarded, there's a reason 75% of open world games made after 2017 feature a trailer with a glider and an open field
>ARE YOU SAYING ZELDA INVENTED GLIDERS?!?!

Is Switch 2 coming out soon? I haven't been paying attention. August, right?
That's when retailers get stock. I'm betting Nintendo will make an artificial outage to make more hype than there is for the system. It's looking more and more like that as time moves forward near release day.

I'm betting Nintendo will make an artificial outage
This isn't really falsifiable, and we expect that the console is going to be rare for a while after launch simply because that's the consoomer thing to do, and is the expected status quo. Supposing you're right, how would you demonstrate that the shortage was artificial/engineered and not a consequence of limited manufacturing speed?

Seriously, BOTW causes so much seething here that I’m not sure whether to laugh or to shake my head in disbelief.

I don’t know if it is better or worse than how the FFVII Remakes also cause page long screeching.
For what it is worth, I never got a remake of FFVII. I'm still waiting and probably will be for a while.

The Nintendo seethe really is special though. Half the people here come off as jilted lovers that have been personally wronged. Every scenario has the worst possible result no matter what, up to and including Nintendo breaking the law and defrauding shareholders. Guys... Nintendo only had someone murdered that one time. Come on!

There are plenty of legitimate gripes with the game itself, but to pretend it's not only not influential in the industry, but that it's not even popular at all is just sheer delusion bordering on being so retarded as to lack theory of mind.

Yeah, pretending the divine beasts aren't dungeons is dumb, but that does touch on an actual issue with the game: every divine beast aside from naboris (camel in the gerudo desert) kinda sucks. Eventide island probably gets talked about 10x more than the other three divine beasts combined, and for good reason.

Edit: BotW punched above its weight for years though, you're wrong to say it "quickly eroded" or whatever, lots of exploration games still steal its glider ideas to this very day.
this is very true, look at Genshin Impact that game is a chinese rip-off of BOTW
