It’s five years too late, but they finally added Galaxy 2. Pretty cool for a tie-in to the movie! It’s a free update for 3D All Stars, right?

It’s… it’s a free update for 3D All Stars, right…?

Oh dear god it’s even worse than 3D All Stars :cryblood:

Let me guess, they just ripped out Galaxy from 3D All Stars and copypasted thier work for Galaxy 2?

I guess if you had 3D All Stars at least you can pay 40 bucks for 6 more Galaxy 1 save files :story:

Even worse - they added a very minimal amount of new content in the form of assist mode, a new UI, and some new storybook chapters. Just enough for diehard fans who bought 3DAS to go “:wow: I’d better rebuy it again!”

Say what you will about Nintendo, but they know their consumer base.

WOWIE ZOWIE ARE YOU READY FOR MORE MARIO

Mario Tennis! Mario Wonder Release! Yoshi! Mario Kart! Donkey Kong! MARIO VIRTUAL BOY! A TALKING FLOWER!!! I LOVE MARIO

But really, this console has become a console for babies that parents can't afford. There are barely any Nintendo games on it and if they are they are a Mario or Mario spin off. The only exceptions are Kirby, another Hyrule Warriors and a Fire Emblem game that looks kind of bad. I get that this was before Mario's 40th Anniversary, but that's the thing. He's fucking 40 at this point. Its not the 1980s anymore Nintendo. Even Disney realized they couldn't survive on just Mickey Mouse. I wonder if the reason the consoles that launch with Zelda do well is they make the console feel less "kiddie". Mario makes the console feel like it's for babies and, yeah, that's what Switch 2 feels like. Mario Tennis could have been any other game and if you are going to do spin offs, how about using another IP other than Mario.

The Virtual Boy on NSO was the moment you knew things were going wrong. The shark has been jumped. Direct was a -1/10. My $450 remains safe.

Well, might as well do another one of these reviews:
  • Nintendo somehow managed to make a 3D Mario collection that’s even more scummy than 3D All-Stars… $70 for two Wii games, one of which was already rereleased on Switch five years ago. I’m not even mad at this point, I’m genuinely impressed at how effectively Nintendo can milk every last dollar out of its desperate audience. Even $60 would have been fuck-you levels of overpriced, but they went for $40 per game/$70 as a bundle. Incredible.
  • Mario Tennis Fever looks fine, but I just don’t care, especially for $70. I don’t mean to be one of those people who whines about game prices increasing, I’m just saying a game better be pretty fucking good if it costs that much.
  • An announcement that surprised absolutely no one: Mario Wonder Switch 2 Edition. I did really like the original, but this one has too much of a multiplayer focus for me (including a mode that looks suspiciously similar to Super Mario War…). I’ll withhold my judgement for now.
  • A new Yoshi that looks very reminiscent of Yoshi’s Story, I like that. But come on… “Yoshi and the Mysterious Book”? It sounds like that parody from a couple decades ago, “The Legend of Zelda and the Lampshade of No Real Significance”.
  • The new Tomodachi Life is already showing red flags. At the risk of political sperging, they went out of their way to refer to a clearly-female Mii as “they”, and there were few white male Miis compared to everything else. I’m calling it right now, they will definitely include gay marriage and use the excuse that Miis don’t actually have gender. Remember the whole fiasco with the 3DS Tomodachi Life.
  • Do ports of old games really need full cinematic trailers?
  • Mr. President, a second Air Riders direct has hit the calendars. The amiibo look good, too.
  • Virtual Boy on NSO is a nice surprise, and they’re going all-in on the joke with an optional headset that… wait… the headset is mandatory? It’s fucking MANDATORY?! WHY?!?! … okay, you can also get a cheap cardboard version, but why the fuck can’t you just play these games on a normal screen? Emulators do it just fine! And you still need the online expansion on top of that. Completely insane.
  • I like Samus with a motorbike. It’s cool, it fits the theme, and it’s useful. I’m also not a big Metroid fan in general, so maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about.
  • Shadow-dropping paid DLC for Bananza, a game that’s been out for less than two months, is… bold, to say the least. Also a demo, which is good for me because I still haven’t gotten the game.
  • Pokemon Pokopia isn’t for me, but it looks neat as far as Pokemon spinoffs go.
  • Pokemon Legends Z-A told Bananza “hold my beer” as they announced paid DLC for a game that’s not even out yet. Fucking hell.
  • The final announcement is yet another fucking Fire Emblem featuring yet another fucking blue-haired anime swordsman who will definitely be in the next Smash. I predicted this, and I was unfortunately right.
  • And to top it all off… nothing new for Mario Kart World, an overpriced launch title that desperately needs to be fixed.
Overall, it’s shit. I pray for Valve to release a cheap consolized PC and Steam Deck Lite that will show Nintendo their place, because Sony and Microsoft are all but dead in the water. At least we have Air Riders to look forward to.

That was rough....

God damn, what is with Nintendo today being so baby-heavy. I swear this company struck gold the first 3-4 years of Switch and rather than building on that success pivoted hard into an even worse direction. 2's lineup looks like worse versions of the Switch, particularly the Fire Emblem games which looks like a worse Three Houses. Will give it credit however, it does seem more mature than Engage, but still vastly behind Dimichad game.

Mario is just going ultra baby mode... 😒
I hate how Odyssey pushed Mario to have a more realism/cartoon artstyle that looked great, only for Nintendo to just give up on it after Odyssey. Most positive takeaway from the direct is that the new Mario Tennis uses old models, so maybe we can go back to tall Mario. DK is fucked though, they truly are committed to that ugly redesign.

Odyssey seemed to change that perception a bit. It was the last Mario that seemed to have kids actually play it from my experience. It was dumb of Nintendo to never follow it up with a sequel and change the art style to some super cartoony look which hides the fact that Mario went back to its generic New Super Mario Bros roots everyone hated on the Wii U.

This Direct was a day before Mario's 40th anniversary. I expect the Zelda Direct to be sometime in February 2026 near the 40th anniversary of Zelda.

But they are bringing the Virtual Boy back. That's the real system seller.

That will be a 100$+ accessory that you can literally make at home with a cardboard box, two toilet rolls, duct tape and scissors. It's beyond parody.
Yeah, and how did it end for Sony

Tbf, half of those are good games, and the other half would have been good games if their politics was toned down. None of the Switch game released and announced are worth consideration unless you're packed up with nostalgia.

I think what helped Odyssey is
>You had a generation of kids that grew up on Mario 64 and this game was a lot like it
>The Switch 1 wasn't just MARIOOOOOOO. It launched with a massive Zelda game and had a good variety of games that, while not "hardcore games for hardcore games" were not sugary sweet enough to alienate young adults. Even 1-2 Switch was made in a way so it could appeal to young adults

I don't think Odyssey 2 would help the Switch 2 because it would be a cotton candy game on a cotton candy platform. Nintendo has been so awful about making games for adults or even teenagers so without Zelda they basically just sell to Tendies. The problem now is young adults that grew up on Switch are spending less and parents can't afford it.

Switch 2 desperately needs some variety in its exclusives. Kart racers, farming games and lots of quirky little titles that feel more like demos. The lineup is just uninspired and if it were any other company, they'd be raked over the coals for it. But Nintendo gets a pass by virtue of being Nintendo.

Open world metroid, ninendo really is a decade behind on trends.

Pokemon once again suprises me with their level of laziness. A comfy pokemon farming game.
BOTW and its consequences have been a disaster for Nintendo. Also it’s impossible for Pokémon to surprise me with their laziness at this point.

The most horrifying thing of it all is that this is standard for this console gen’s output. In fact, Nintendo is still ahead of Sony and Microsoft in producing first party games that appeal to at least some portion of their audience.

I've been inspecting the race ratios of the original Tomochichi life against the new one based on this trailer released today. Some things to note. East Asians will be counted separately, i'll include an additional total with them in addtion to the non-whites as well. I'm counting heads by scene not by character, so a character may appear in two scenes, but will be counted twice. Series of scenes with the same character will not be counted twice. The characters must be different in the new scene. If the next scene has a character that appeared earlier then I will count them again. I will also mention scenes with groups of people and have operate ratios there.

Tomodachi Life
Thumbnail features a scene of 6 characters, two of them non-white.I counted 18-20 white people.

No interracial relationships and scenes with multiple people on average two thirds were white.

I counted 8 non-whites in the trailer. In the three scenes with a group of character it was 2–2–1 for the quantity of blacks. No Asians in this trailer strangely.

The total ratio for this trailer is 18/26 or 69% percent of the character are whites up to 71% (My counting was kind of sloppy)

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream
Thumbnail has one character and they are white.

First group scene has no non-whites, five whites and three east asians of japanese origin( ratio of 3/5).

Next two scenes are also groups, both have three non-whites, with the second being two browns and an east-Asian. (ratio of 2/5)

Another group seen three people, two white and some kind of tan. (Ratio of 3/3 or 2/3)

Next group has two asians one white (1/3)

Sequence of character creation, shows a character of every race. One white maybe 2 if you think the fairer looking male is white.

Next scene has no whites(1 black and a asian), while the scene after has only 1 white out of 5.

Weird crossdressing white guy, followed by a white women on her own.

Next scene has a sequence of two white friends, followed by a scene with one white girl from the thumbnail.

Rapid sequence of multiple scenes, not going to break them down so here's the total count. 4 non-whites(3 humans and a poster) and three whites.

Trailer ends with a white presenter.

Total whites(not counting thumbnail) = 21-23(based on if you count the tan girl and the swarthy looking male in the character creator)

Total non-whites(without asians) = 14-16 with asians it goes up to 27

This trailer ranges from slightly worse to horrifying. With the best percent 62% with no asians counted and 23 whites with only 14 blacks. To as low as 43% with 21 whites and 27 non-whites.

TL;DR: The orignal tomodachi life had more whites at 70%, in addtion to straight relationships. While the new one has cross-dressing men, no genders and the total whites can be as low as 43% or up to 62% if you remove the asians from the calculation.
