My DS Lites never really lasted 2 years. The thumbpad of my 3DS were always the first to disintegrate. JoyCon drift. One or two of my cubes burned out after several years.
I actually have a cursed DS Lite that has the uncanny ability of wiping the save data of any game that is placed within it.
Evil fucking thing.

My OG 3DS (that I know longer own) never had that issue but my first 3DS XL did and I solely blame it on the thumbpad not being suitable for Smash Bros' 3DS entry.
Yeah, for me, as soon as a very specific part of the hinge breaks off, the top screen just started dying a few months later. It's weird, I never had that problem with anything else.
The hinges of the DS Lite are very prone to breaking because the casings, both of my Lites had a point of failure that started when the plastic shells covering the hinges started to crack.

As far as the to screen slowly dying is concerned it's probably due to the ribbon cable coming undone, especially if the damage is on the left hinge.

You're right. I looked it up and they go for $25 at Target. Probably runs like shit
I forgot how much that I paid for mines; but it runs mostly fine. Except that it's just shit that doesn't even competes with the glory days of the 16 bit era.

Some people here don't like the feeling of games and consoles you had as a kid being retro or classic, but I hate the stagnation era we have now. Late Zoomers and Gen-Alphas childhood games are exclusively Fortnite, MK8, Smash Ultimate, and Roblox. You'd think Gen-Alphas would have a bigger library since it's easier than ever to publish a game on a console, and you can buy those "300 games in 1" toys in Walmart for like $40 bucks
That's the horrific reality of Games as Service, once they sunk their claws in, especially at children, it is near impossible to break free.

For what reason? Dude isn't directly involved with games since 2017 at least, people keep using his name as scapegoat for everything bad happening at the company when he only cares about shoving pikmin on museums or some shit.
Unless its changed, Miyamoto is still on the Board of the company and was the head of the software division. He has a lot of say despite not directing a game in over a decade.
But yeah, he probably just needs to retire at this point.

It's honestly worrying for the younger generations.

Bro, I'm at the point where games and consoles I had as an adult are consider retro.

The suits retired most of the old guard on the beginning of the Switch era and gave him the "honorary cheerleader" position to not look bad. If he still had any say on the matter of gaming direction, Switch 2 would have some weird major addition/redesign and some whimsical silly launch title instead of premium The Lab and soulless cripple basket.

It’s not a bad role for a guy who has aged out of game production and trained his successors and seen them achieve incredible success, he’s a brand ambassador and supervising IP expansion, it’s one thing he can consult on effectively since the gaming market and tech markets have fundamentally changed since his miraculous decades. He demonstrated with star fox zero he’ll commit to novel toy designs over satisfying conservative gamers and providing an experience they want or that works as smoothly as one would like. IP expansion and theme parks are good for him, he seems like he wants to keep finding new ways to have fun playing games or with his characters, and gaming is too conservative to really appreciate an old toy designer’s love of finding new ways to have fun.

The system (mkw bundle) just went on discount for $450 today. I think it sold out very quickly. Hope anyone on the fence got one before it was too late. I can only imagine the shit storm if Nintendo actually raises the price because of a long-term ram price hike.

Thinkin about it, maybe they're just using Miyamoto as a mouthpiece to make people feel better about their current plans with becoming just like Disney, cause even Nintentards would never listen to a group of soulless businessmen, who are all strangely foreign-looking despite being a Japanese company.

They all strangely have Remphan Star lapels...

Holy shit Nintendo did it.
the technical presentation on Switch 2, it's basically faultless
These characters appear briefly in cutscenes with some occasional dialogue, but never to an annoying degree. And in fact, you kind of come to like them over time. Compare this to Metroid Prime 3's lengthy introduction with the constant chatter. This really is a non-issue.
