I mean if you're going to remake something because you're terrified of new ideas why not just remake Starfox II? Most people never even got the chance to play that one as it remained unreleased until the late 2010s.
Honestly if the campaign was a remake of the SNES Star Foxes with actual graphics instead the super fx chip struggling to render 3D that would actually be a more compelling sell. I guess that's what they were doing with Star Fox 64, a reimagining of Star Fox 1 that ran at a decent framerate, but if they absolutely had to retread then I would've preferred something a bit more unexplored, i.e. throw in the SF2 campaign for shits.

How is it that the fucking PLUSHIES look more appealing than the actual in-game designs?!

I think the legs on Fox and Falco has that uncanny quality to them along with the design make them more inhuman and less you want to associate as heroes.
The Star Fox team has always been interesting in that regard, because they're mercenaries that just happen to take jobs from the Lylat System's defense force. Would be interesting to see more morally ambiguous jobs in future titles.

They are using the original designs (N64, DS and Smash), just modified. Once more, Nintendo, there is a reason your characters were changed visually past the first game, many did not age well and trying to rewrite things to be more retro ends up looking like shit.

Smash should really be the template for how characters should look. Sakurai and co have their faults, but they clearly have a deep understanding of characters...mostly...
Wolf's original design in Ultimate look is still king, wish they just used/updated it instead of going backwards.

Some on /v/ claimed Cero has restrictions on depicting amputees, which killed off the metal boots/metal legs from this title. Looking it up, I don't fully believe it, but it is a possibility I guess.

They should have just kept the metal boots, they cool/stylish which is why Fox & co are appealing to begin with. I am sure they can BS Cero and say they are just boots if that actually is an issue.

He didn't make Krystal, so there is an aversion to using her.
People often think this, but I don't think it's true. Imamura was the one who told Rare to keep Krystal and make her sexier, and he at least said Miyamoto would approve. Imamura was also around as artist and supervisor for Star Fox since the beginning and is really the series "dad" along with Miyamoto. I would even say Imamura was the real heart and soul of Star Fox. I just think Miyamoto has no good ideas to evolve the series' gameplay, and he doesn't care enough about story to think of a sequel plot, so we ended up with Zero. Imamura unfortunately has left Nintendo entirely as of 2021. This new remake looks like something that was probably outsourced to another company, so I think everyone involved is really struggling to risk doing anything new just keep redoing SF64 to see if they can capture lightning in a bottle again so they have a template for future games.

@Retarded Weeb Miyamoto is weird, he pushes the utilization of characters, but doesn't seem to like using them himself. He was the guy that dismissed using Wario in New Super Mario Bros because they didn't have a fart mechanic. I think he is like Sakurai where he can acknowledge contributions made by others and can let teams do their own thing, but if he is making a game, then his IP will primarily be his stuff.

Krystal was a Rare creation, which is something Shiggy seems averse to touching. One can go over the million rumors of his secret hatred for Rare, but in general, Miyamoto seems to uphold his vision of things on his projects, whereas he is more accepting of something like K Rool if Retro does it. Might be a creator respect thing, like this isn't his character, so he doesn't want to soil it for their creator, hence the Wario needs specific mechanics to be playable. Or he may just flat out not understand characters, which also seems highly likely, so he avoids using them even if he lets others play around.

The weird irony is that the only really good Star Fox is the first game, so thank God they decided to remake that one a few times.

SF2 is alright. Command was okay. Assault... ground missions... ehhhhhhhhhhh... and I liked Star Fox Adventures? But that isn't Star Fox. The rest are pretty lame... all two of them.
The only reason for this franchise to exist is to go from one themed planet to another and do linear rail shooter levels. Everything else is stupid and gay and a misuse of the IP. I'd be pissed if the new one WASN'T a reboot.

Agreed.

Star Fox is very misunderstood. Even its designers have forgotten that Star Fox is a 45 minute arcade rail shooter where you try to unlock new routes and improve your high score via extensive replay.

Star Fox is not a long, narrative-driven experience. It is a high score machine.

At least give us a new level pack of that. That's what I'm most pissed about, same 30 year old levels with no changes.
