I have a funny story to tell.

A couple of days ago, I went on Reddit and made up a fake “leak” about Nintendo releasing a new trailer for Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave.

A Nintendo fansite actually took the bait and made a tweet that got over 470,000 views:

Nintendo fans are way too gullible when it comes to fake leaks.

Que some retard shit about an Ocarina remake being in the works, with no evidence, and even now I'm still getting the odd video brainstorming what possible additions goytendo could make to a game that isn't even confirmed to be happening. Shit's hilarious.
So: still more exclusives than Switch 2
Daaaaaaaaaamn.

Interesting graphic I just found regarding exclusives released in the first year. Doesn't include Star Fox.

That pic tells a really interesting story:
  • GameCube - Look at all these original games we are making for our IPs
  • Wii - Ditto except with waggle bullshit
  • WiiU - Hey, Imma borrow some shit from the GameCube and Wii
  • Switch - Hey, Imma borrow some shit from the GameCube, Wii, and WiiU
  • Switch 2 - Hey, Imma borrow some shit from the GameCube, Wii, WiiU, and Switch
Hell, if you count Mario 3D all stars, that even includes the N64

Considering that Smash Melee was called Smash DX in Japan, Mario Sunshine was the direct-ish sequel to 64 with more of a gimmick to spice things up (and the same went for Wave Race and Mario Party 4), Animal Crossing was just an enhanced (and localized) port of the Japanese version of Animal Crossing (for N64) (which got an even further enhanced version that had a lot of the new content locked behind the E-Reader because it was more of a hit there), the GameCube's launch year (maybe the second year too if you count the zelda collection they released) could easily quallify more as"Hey, Imma borrow some shit from the N64" than "new and original games for our IPs"

and all the switch 2 updates for switch 1 games as switch 2 exclusives.
the three on the graphic that are the ones that have DLC jewed behind the (paid) updates are half-points at best, because I don't see people sucessfully using the thinly veiled forks of the main two switch emulators to play with them day one for obvious reasons.

Are we REALLY splitting hairs now?

Mario Sunshine is in no way related to 64 because you're stuck with FLUDD throughout the entire game outside of the special stages.
  • You can't punch/kick enemies. You attack with FLUDD
  • Platforms and hard-to-reach areas can only be accessed via FLUDD, hence the hover and rocket power-ups
  • Almost all of Sunshine's Sprites require you to clean shit up like you're a janitor. In 64 you're doing different random shit to get the stars.
  • Every stage and scenery in Sunshine is water/beach related so you can fill up your FLUDD. 64 has a variety of different non water/beach levels.
Sunshine is a completely different game to 64 and calling it the same and treating it like it's the same as 64 is disingenuous

Gamecube is truly the superior console.

In all seriousness though, if we're going just by pure exclusives then I'd rate Switch 2 as the same or just above the first Switch. BOTW being cross-gen removes a lot of heavy lifting there.

This graphic was made by a retard. They put TP in as a Wii exclusive, Botw, mk8 and pokken as switch exclusive, and all the switch 2 updates for switch 1 games as switch 2 exclusives.
I couldn't figure out what it was supposed to depict. It's not all the 1st party exclusives.

I said Direct-ish squeal because:

  • It was the main series 3D Mario game that came after 64.

  • All of the main levels in Sunshine have a set amount of objectives, plus a 100 coin shine, and a lot of them are large semi-open spaces you can freely traverse with the moveset provided, just like 64, even if the tasks are different and there's one more per level compared to 64.

  • A bunch of "secret" objectives that are largely in the hub world and some one off levels you have to find in said hub world (and some secret shines sprinkled in the main levels)

  • Mario's normal jumps, footstomp, wall jump, dive, and sideflip are carried over from 64, besides the triple jump being a nerfed version of the 100% reward from 64, dives being infinitely chainable on the ground and wall jumps being infinitely easier

  • the pure platforming objectives without FLUDD were purely designed arround Mario's core moveset when you arn't doing the bonus objectives that do use FLUDD, in a similar vein to the bowser stages from 64 being a point A to B with the only extra objectives being the Red coins off the beaten path

The game was made following many of the fundamental cues made from 64, how can you be blind enough not to see that?

Because my initial statement was how newer consoles are just borrowing games from other systems rather than sticking to just making new things, and you're lumping other games that aren't even what I'm talking about.

Sticking 64 next to Sunshine and going "oh yea totally the same game" is like going "A Link To The Past is totally NES Zelda" or "Sonic Heroes/Unleashed is totally the Adventure games you guys!". While the gameplay MIGHT be similar to them, they are fundamentally different games in their own right.

Wonder Switch 2 is just Wonder Switch 1 with in-game content that could have been made DLC for the base game since the Switch 1 isn't dead and forgotten. Mario Kart 8 Switch 1 is just Mario Kart 8 WiiU with more tracks that could have been given to the WiiU if it didn't flop and suck so hard. you can not, in good faith, claim Sunshine and 64 is the same thing as these two examples.
