But how could they enforce it if you never connect to the internet though? I installed custom firmware on my PS3 back in the day and could ran pirated games added through a USB, i just had to turn off wifi on the console. I could play online no problem i just wasnt stupid enough to try and see what happens.

This TOS is insanity. Not just reverse engineering. Technically as the owner of the device, you're not allowed to install custom cooling or 3D print a ventilated back panel. Sure, they can't possibly enforce something like that but you bet it'll be twisted in creative ways to fuck the consumer over.
They went after a small operation in Japan installing video-out mods to the 3DS. Wasn't used for anything illegal.

That's pretty much it. Hardware bans are a thing for the Switch, but that's about it and for the most part a nothingburger if it happens to you by accident. Now you have to deal with the threat of bricking too since Nintendo have become more dickish.

Nintendo already threatened to remotely brick modded consoles in 2011 with the 3DS, and never actually did it. I see no reason to get mad about the same empty threat a second time.
They're being greedy jews, but that's already evident from their other Switch 2 marketing.

I can't figure out why people even buy modern gaming consoles. 🙄
For PS & XB, convenience and an ecosystem they're deeply entrenched in. For Nintendo, their exclusives and portability, which is why they definitely don't want Switch 2 hacked or an emulator released early on.

With Nintendo slowly being subverted at a corporate level with the same faggotry that Sony and Microsoft fell to -- "No, you can't buy that game, Karen at the Starbucks in LA thinks it's creepy" -- Nintendo deciding to get MORE dickish is not a good thing.
Nintendo having some ethical standards could be a good thing, at least if they applied then consistently.

Who's to say they won't nowadays? 14 years later that could do things differently.

I don't see any fundamental changes to their security since the 3DS days that suggest this.
They already had unique identifiers for every console and every game cartridge like they do now. They banned consoles they caught using homebrew, rather than remotely bricking them. Likewise for the Switch 1.
There is no good reason to believe that Nintendo will begin to follow through on their threats now, when they've been able to do so for about 18 years (Wii) and have chosen not to.
They just want the headlines to scare you. They don't deserve the attention.

I have a love/hate relationship with Nintendo. On one hand they have produced some of the greatest video games of all time, on the other they have been massive control freak faggots since day one. They tried hard to stop video game rentals and third party development ffs.

Every controller they have made since the SNES has been weird shit that seems to (at least partially) be engineered to make emulation harder.

The last system I own by them is a Wii (which I primarily use to emulate older Sega and Nintendo games lol) .

Dunno if it's late or not, but a Nintendo insider was posting about how big N had already imported over a million Switch 2 units before the tariffs ever came into the picture.

So they just used tariffs as an excuse to jack up the price and pocket the profit.

Fuck these guys. Iwata is spinning in his grave.

It’s just bad timing. It’s putting salt into the wound of the ridiculous S2 prices. It’s almost impressive how they’ve had a PR slip-up, acknowledged it, and then immediately proceeded to make it consistently worse for nearly an entire month after the fact.

Hiking prices due to “””tariffs””” and the game-key card debacle have already seriously soured the console’s reception. I don’t need to elaborate on the disaster of Mario Kart World’s pricing and questionable lack of content, the paid tutorial for the system, the voice chat retardation, etc. Who on earth thought it’d be a good idea to add even more PR poison to the pile?

Nah I think they had it all piled up to go all at once and there's one overworked, half-drunk PR guy nursing a drink in one hand and a desperate plan to salvage the launch in the other somewhere in big N's office building.

Nah, that's like saying forking a socket didn't do harm last time so just do it again. Nintendo is becoming increasingly litigious, with the Palworld thing and all. They'll deliver at some point. They might even implement a YouTube/Twitch style "reeducation exam" telling the user to stop being a naughty boy in order to unbrick their piece of Jap ewaste. People will still buy it up. Nothing will happen, change is for the worse.

Nintendo is going for nigger of the decade with some of the stuff they're doing as of late.

Bold of you to assume its not already in place. Look at the PS4 people found out that if it doesn't connect to the network after X years it automatically locks itself.

I would assume all devices going forwards have a death switch already built in that if it doesn't receive a signal for headquarters it locks itself.

Definitely a empty threat, companies lie about doing shit like that all the time as a desprate way to scare people into submission like when T-mobile told me they would shut off my home Internet if I moved the router but I moved it all over the country and they never did. It never works and they just get really bad press for it so I have no idea why anyone thinks its a good strategy

All the companies do this, Sony tried being pro consumer with the PS3 mid generation but immediately went back to being super gay when the PS4 sold well and has been ever since. Xbox tried to be that later into the Xbox one's life trying to embrace crossplay and gamepass (although they never really recovered unlike Sony and Nintendo)

Did you expect them to have one price for the first million units and then a second price for the next 79 million? Thats not how this shit works, bro. They also announced the price hours before Trump announced the tariffs and have set it in line with what everyone outside of Japan will be paying.

I'm amending the agreement with a clause that states "if Nintendo bricks your console, they consent to having their executives Luigi'd." Total Corpo Death.

Man, I remember getting my first console, a used Super Nintendo. I played the shit out of some of those games, like Mario and Lion King. When I was a little older I got a DS for Christmas, and a Wii for my birthday the very first year it launched (I was a poor kid, that was a BIG deal). I'm a PC gamer, with the only exception being Nintendo consoles. I remember thinking how cool and expensive the consoles were, how awesome and stylish, and they gave me a totally new way to play video games (on my TV?? With a remote?? OR IN THE CAR?!!!) That sense of wonder eventually went away, as it always does, but my adoration remained. I remember the first time I beat MarioKart, watching the tribute to Iwata play on my TV and feeling a sense of loss even though I'd never heard of the guy before then. I thought, here's the guy responsible for some of my best childhood memories, and he's dead? That's... kind of a tragedy. Maybe it was for the best - sure, things might be different if he'd lived, but what if the corporate machine turned anyway, and we were here regardless? From what I've read of him, he'd probably be suffering and depressed, maybe locked in his office ashamed of what had become of his company.

I just want to play my Pokemans, I never asked for any of this 1984 bullshit. I can't say I regret buying the original Switch, but I don't think I'm ever going to buy a brand new Nintendo console again and that makes me a little sad. This company I thought was the pinacle of game tech and games as a kid is really just a pile of corporate bullshit that, no matter the level of nostalgia, I can't stomach supporting.

Well, that settles it then. I already have a modded V1 Switch, but I guess i'll mod my OLED as well. Anyone here can tell me should i use picofly or instinct and what are the differences?

a lot of the time i feel like the threats are ‘we have to say this but we don’t actually mean it just for the love of god do not get caught and force us ok’
