Just wait for CRISPr and the Internet of Bodies to become reality and soon you'll have a little notification from Klaus Schwab that your stem cells are out of date. Then you'll get a notification when you've alloted enough Social Credit to fix your eyes.

I started tuning out once the Prof started talking about restricting meat eating.

NAD is not exactly a new find and the data is kind of out on it.

I am just going to continue receiving blood transfusions from poor teens to keep me alive.

I should not have to do this but the last sentence was indeed sarcasm. I do not actually infuse myself with blood of the young.

CRISPr is based. Globalism a lot less so
CRISPr is incredibly capable and useful and I have no doubts it will make incredible strides in the future. I take issue with genome editing since, well, they're your genes. We stop being a natural human and start being at least partially synthetic or artificial when we open these doors. We will also forever carry the burden of any poor outcomes that could permanently damage the human genome.

I see CRISPr and genome editing as a technology similar to nuclear weapons; it's amazing, it's effective, but lord do I ever not want it used on me. It's a power that comes across as nearly too powerful for any person to have.

Some people's genes are fucking shit, and should probably be edited. Of course, not against their will. If someone wants to modify their genes in a way that isn't explicitly harmful voluntarily, I see little issue in it

I doubt that NMN supplements will make you immortal. You should aim to be as healthy as possible for as long as possible. We already know how to do that.
- HIIT
- Low body fat percentage (your muscles are an immune organ, your fat is pro-inflammatory).
- High amounts of green leafy vegetables.
- Lots of water.
- Constant changes in environment. Go to somewhere cold for a few weeks, go to some where hot for a few weeks, restrict your calories.

Unfortunately for the modern man, the best way to maintain health long term is lots of exercise, lean foods, and lots of variety in your life.

Feels like the same sentiment as troons. I can only see it as a slippery slope and I haven't had anyone present it to me in a way that makes me comfortable with the idea of even voluntary genome editing. You are what you are and that is by God or nature or the universe's arrangement and we shouldn't be interfering. I digress. I will stop derailing this thread now.

Is there a word for this sort of treachery? The living for yourself for as long as you can even if the earth is uninhabitable afterwards? You know the opposite of living for family or nation (maybe even for God) where the most meaningful thing in the world is to have a people, to feel laxity is a sin and fighting to your last breath for something larger than yourself is glorious? I realize we've all walked down this road of losing 'our people' so much that we are all marked by this treasonous greed for living to 120, in a diaper for half your life at that point, no matter the tax burden on the rest, but surely there must be an alternative?

First of all, people keep talking about entering the matrix and living forever separated from their weakened flesh and its aging. I don't understand why people think reading your brain to a level of detail so as to make a digital-you ends the real you in the process? I've never understood that part. But the standard downloading-your-brain model of immortality necessarily murders the meat-man so the digital-man believes they're the original rather than the digital-man existing after a brain-scan makes them and the meat-man continues on with their life, right? I mean that would let the cat out of the bag if we didn't icepick every brain scanned into the system, and people woke up to their duplicate walking around in the matrix rather than them. I imagine it would be the same for the digital copy too? I don't understand why atheists mock an afterlife, and don't have kids so they can spend the money on themselves, only to murder themselves putting a copy of themselves into a computer, and I never will. That's some satanic thoughts, a real Nietzschean-Abyss madness that could be infectious if stared into.

Are we really going to Ship-of-Theseus humanity by unlocking a form of parasitic asexual reproduction where we harvest from stem cells thinking they are a new us with our DNA and everything? Will we still be able to sexually reproduce by the end of this train of medicine or are there going to be Altered Carbon like centennials walking around as a permanent Aristocratic class?
This is evil. People have to see that this isn't heroic, or even human.

I'm willing to bet the NAD+ supplementation leads to cancer. I know raising your NAD+ levels helps with PTSD and opioid addictions, and that it helps with general stress and cognition. However short-circuiting your metabolism always leads to long-term losses, such as the effects of habitual drug use. I think some old-school Classical Greek Cynicism, and seeing the purpose of life is to live in virtue, in agreement with nature. As reasoning creatures, people can gain happiness by rigorous training and by living in a way which is natural for themselves, rejecting all conventional desires for wealth, power, and fame, and even flouting conventions openly and derisively in public. Instead, they were to lead a simple life free from all possessions. Trying to live forever alternative to this, doing what you hate all the while, so that you're really set to live by the time you're 80 is no way to run a life.

Secure enough to be able to tell people to Fuck Off, make friends following a hobby that teaches you hard work pays off, find a women to mock for falling in love with you and make her as emotionally frustrated as possible. Have some kids too, maybe not until your 30s and you've been married for a while. Let them inherit your works, especially the crazy ones.

That's what the greys are, DNA ravaged time travellers from the future here to strip us of our precious bodily fluids.

im not saying give me immortality. i just want maybe a few hundred years or so. imagine how many modern AAA video games i could beat in that time knowing how long they are to play

Necroing because a co-worker talked about how he takes those supplements. Sounds too good to be true, and it's been 2 years so there should be more data

There’s probably something to it, but our ability to actually jack up NAD+ production gets borked as well as we get older so even if you supplement the precursors it doesn’t seem to raise levels of NAD+ enough to be miraculous. I think they need to target the ways it’s created and removed as well as supplementing the precursors.
