Feedback no option to disable Chat pane on the mainpage

this is not a big deal except for firefox users, because the classic problem of it lagging to shit endures even in this latest version. i went afk for like ten minutes and when i got back the whole application was unresponsive across all tabs; this cleared up immediately after i managed to close the two KF Mainpage tabs, killing chat and thereby un-constipating firefox.

i checked the User Control Panel chat options and that menu was identical to the Options button in the top-right corner of the Chat pane, and neither included a "shut that goddamn thing off" switch.

of course the interim solution is to just not dawdle on the main page but where's the fun in that?
 
Oh man, I'm using Firefox 50.0 and have the exact same issue with lag. It's a pretty big bummer, but it clears up when I refresh the page (usually) or exit out of the main page as well.
 
i'd imagine that's correct but i have scripts enabled on kiwifarms.net for some other reason, which i'm sure is indispensable. actually you know what i think i enabled scripts just to test the Desktop Notifications thing in chat, i vaguely remember talking with katsu about it. i'll go kill it now, and if that doesn't work, then i'll kms.
 
If you use Adblock Plus you can just block the chat script entirely.

Open up the blockable items for the main forum index, then sort by type "script" and block kiwifarms.net/js/Jawsh/chat.js?*

Make sure you only block that script and not the entire domain or the forums won't work.
