Haven't seen a thread for this game so I decided to start one.

What do you guys think of the game? I know that it's still in early access but I don't think the direction they are taking the game in, is smart, and having all of these (incompatible?) systems implemented is more of a hindrance than an enhancement.

The main director made a tweet (which is what prompted me to start this thread) on revamping the whole attribute system because some people (even people from his dev team weirdly enough) were incorrectly using it (i.e skilling strength while having a dexterity weapon). That seems to me like an incredibly bad choice to make, even if the newer system is better in every way, making reactionary decisions like this that is aimed towards retards who literally don't know how to read the in-game text will not pay off in the long run in my opinion.

Anyways, what do you guys think?

I've been watching this game from the sidelines since its initial EA launch. I'm interested in it, but I've read so many mixed reviews complaining about its poorly-designed systems. changing the attribute system because people are too retarded to use it correctly does seem like a bad move to me, but also, if a substantial chunk of your players just straight up don't get how to use the system correctly, you're kind of stuck in a bad place as a game developer. is the system poorly designed? is your entire player base just retarded? will your game attract more attention and get better reviews if you change the system? I feel for them. I hope they hammer out the issues with the game cause I'd like to have another spergy ARPG in my life.

In my opinion the game is good in almost every aspect except for its systems/mechanics, If I'd had to give a recommendation I would say wait till full release or a sale (which it is on one at the moment)

Can you describe the systems that people are complaining about and why they suck? It's one thing if the systems are unambiguously shite but another if the players are dented. I guess the claim of "attributes bad because players dumb" is a bit hollow without additional information.

anecdotally, the ones I see mentioned a lot are the timers on building construction, excessive grind for resources/gear etc, bad itemization, unbalanced combat, etc... I don't take the reviews as religion - it's hard to separate legitimate criticism from plain old whinge - but some of the complaints worry me enough to make me hesitate. I really hate loot systems where items are totally useless 90% of the time unless they drop with the exact combination of affixes you need a la Diablo 3/4. they're obviously reconsidering some of the core systems, so I don't see any harm in letting it cook a bit longer.

Here's an interview with the dev, I couldn't watch the whole thing because I don't like vtubers but also the amount of glazing and not offering any criticism or feedback was putting me off.
The dev talks about new features they want to introduce that genuinely has me excited, but on the other hand, I'm wary that just adding new things will do more harm than good when there are fundamental problems with the game.

My personal biggest gripe with the game is that it tries to blend genres in the name of "innovation" when in reality, these genres aren't compatible, at least the way they are currently implemented.

The game has color coded randomly generated stats loot but at the same time it's trying to be a souls like in terms of the combat and rpg elements. The attribute system is a bit shallow where you have health, stamina, equip load and an attribute that scales weapon damage (levels are capped at 30 and you get 3 attribute points per level). There is crafting and resource gathering like survival-craft games which are also super shallow, I think this is superfluous and only serves to pad the game. There is a roguelike mode, which in my opinion is the only good addition to the game.

IDK, this is all subjective, but I feel like the game could benefit from being toned down rather than being bloated with all the different mechanics from different genres and games.

Genuinely hope that this game succeeds because there is a lot to like about it, but with the direction they are taking, I don't know..

https://www.reddit.com/r/SubredditD...no_rest_for_rnorestforthewicked_when_the_ceo/ Sooo this is a funny ass dumpster fire.

Apparently, after the latest update 'The Breach' got mixed reception and negative steam reviews, Mahler went to his fans on the discord, begging them to leave positive reviews on the game because the negative reception is causing people to not buy the game, which means Moon Studios might have to shut down.

After news outlets started reporting on this (because why the fuck wouldn't they? Considering what Mahler asked on his Discord), Mahler melted down hard on X lmao.

lol, this is what happens when the press just picks up Discord posts and writes an article around them 😂🤣Overall, pretty much everyone who’s tried Wicked after the last few hotfixes is extremely positive. The reason I left the post on Discord up was simply to push back against some of the bullshit reviews.I’ve been hated on Twitter by a few crazies for years now, and I also saw the calls for review bombing because, according to those folks, I’m a 'Nazi.' These days, apparently anyone who doesn’t include five trans characters in their game and doesn’t let their products be influenced by political bullshit is a Nazi. What a world we live in 😂When the Russia/Ukraine war broke out and I replied on Twitter saying that Moon Studios wouldn’t be taking a public stance—because we’re a video game company, not a journalistic outlet—the next day a threat letter with a picture of Putin was taped to my office door, full of insults from top to bottom. So I have no issue telling active players who love Wicked that they should go ahead and leave a positive review on Steam. After all, it’s allowed on Steam to buy a game, leave a negative review that doesn’t even talk about the game at all (there are negative Wicked reviews that literally just say '.'), and then instantly refund it… and the negative review still counts. If that’s allowed, then it should also be allowed for a developer to encourage their players to share their real experiences 👍And no, we’re not in immediate financial danger—but from time to time, I think I’m allowed to speak up about issues within our industry I personally find unbecoming. We are continuing as always—our goal is for every game Moon Studios creates to be an absolute masterpiece, and with Wicked we’re already on the way. We want our small 90-person company to push companies like Blizzard, GGG, and others to innovate by putting out products that are top-quality and truly unique - we believe in competition and we think players will win because of that!

Naturally, the subreddit is not really pleased with the guy's antics on X.

And of course, Tommy just had to respond:

Safe to say, it ain't looking too good over at Moon Studios. :stress:

this game has 34k reviews on steam, and this guy is concerned about positive reviews... We know that maybe 10% of players leave reviews. Was the development really this expensive to require constant new purchases just to keep them afloat? Seems they have problems with not only game mechanics but finances too.

The game has tons of potential, a beautiful visual style, great feeling combat but development seems to be suffering from a lack of focus. Seems like half the dev team wants to make a souls-like and the other half a city builder/crafting game. The time restrictions lifted straight from a mobile game are completely out of place and the bizarre focus on making endgame content before finishing the actual campaign is strange to say the least.

MAhl
He just comes off as an individual with an extremely fragile ego, he needs to chill out, too much cortisol in his system.
Mahler is a massive asshole, and fragile as glass. Read his post history on NeoGAF and you'll see what a delusional, egomaniacal dickhead he has always been.

He's the kind of person you love to see fail.

The Grim Dawn devs were smart to just make their city builder a separate game. I was thinking of giving this a shot but the lack of focus and recently getting burnt on an EA game means I'll wait to see how 1.0 pans out (if that even happens).
