'No Stupid Questions' (NSQ) Internet & Technology Edition

Can anyone recommend a decent small tablet under $300 that I can install Lineage OS on a similar custom rom on? Something easy to find that came out in the last 4-5 years.
Good luck with that, LineageOS hardware support is pretty much dead at this point.
There are like 5 tablets officially supported and none of them are new. You might check on XDA-Developers for some unofficial builds.

When I flip to Brave desktop on my phone and try to log into my gmail account this is what the screen shows:
brave[1].png
But Brave and running gmail, youtube, drive, etc. all seem to work fine on my laptop. The version of Brave on my phone is right off of the Google Play store, too.

Just curious if this is some dickhead thing Google does that I can't fix or is there a workaround? If it matters my phone is a four year old LG potato running what I imagine is an older version of Android.

Not a huge deal, guess I'm more curious than anything else.

edit: The "Learn More" link just takes you to a list of "supported browsers." Brave is not one of them, if that means anything.

Is there a piece of software or guide that can help me look at memory.dmp files? I just had my first blue screen and I want to see what the log says. According to what I've seen in the reliability monitor it may be a graphics driver issue.

Windbg or BlueScreenView.
Is there any way to remove metadata from proprietary screenshots and/or photos?
If you're using Windows select the file, right click -> properties -> details -> remove properties and personal information. There's an option to strip the data from the original file and to create a new copy without any EXIF data, and you can do this to multiple files at once.

The easy way for clueless people on mobile, and I have recommended some users to do this when they messed up, is to: upload it to imgur, save the uploaded image it is showing, then click "delete" instead of publish to get rid of the uploaded image so it never goes public. Imgur scrubs everything so the downloaded picture is safe to post.

There are also websites where you can alter, add or remove exif data, including GPS coordinates, cumbersome and completely useless because the kiwi-forums removes all metadata. I wish there was a toggle for that when uploading images from cows.

I'm in the market to buy a new smartphone, but there's so much shit on the market that I can't really parse what's a good value since most flagship phones are approaching the $1k mark now (if they already haven't). I want something more on the budget end, $300 USD being my price cap I think.

The most I use my phone for is YouTube, social media apps, and of course actual phone shit. I DO probably play a game here and there out of curiosity though, so I don't want something that's ultra budget and will be super slow in those few cases.

I'd look into getting a refurbished phone. If you don't mind getting one a generation or two out of date and which had been sent in for repairs, you can save a lot of money to get something decent. Amazon carries its own certified refurbished products it brands as Amazon Renewed.

I definitely don't mind a phone that's a little out of date, I'm quite overdue for an upgrade so something that's a gen or two old isn't a huge deal. I don't know why I hadn't thought about refurbished devices, I'll definitely keep my eye out for those.

I have been niggered.

A while back I mentioned I was buying a laptop.

like 1-1/2 months ago I get informed they will upgrade it to windows 11. I sperged out and they said I have a 10 day period to go back. said fine

Just got it in, the "go back" button isn't fucking there. Email them, same bitch as last time replies:

"I know you have been waiting, but my team says you can't downgrade, let me tell you why windows 11 is better anyways!!!!"

frankly, idk what to do now. I still run software that needs windows at the time being so I can't just say yolo and drop linux on it just yet. Is Windows 11 really bad enough it should warrant me returning (is shutup10 working on it yet?) or is it mostly the same shit and I should just deal with shit UI?

Great I thought about doing that but I didn't think it would work.

I should be more positive.

Thanks mate
Whenever you want to download media from somewhere, it doesn't hurt to try youtube-dl/yt-dlp first because there's like a 90% chance that it will just work. It's a really broad tool at this point. Only after it fails is it useful to try asking search engines and using sketchy web sites or downloading sketchy programs.

YouTube-DL question: has a fix been created yet to solve the issue of age-gated videos not downloading? Or is this just a fact of life now?
