Yeah? I'm sure some people want to do something like that, but I figured they lost a bunch of the crazies who'd really carry that vote to ayo.js. Heh, or actually, do the ayo.js people still have the ability to vote on node.js issues?

If so, watch them slink back to node.js, and if they can manage to push some new censorship rules through, just shut ayo.js down and pretend it never happened.

A lot of the people involved in Ayo.js still maintain their position and roles within NodeJS. Most people with technical chops understand AyoJS probably won't be around in 6 months so they're doing it for virtue signalling purposes.

Yeah, that's deeply unprofessional and worrying.

And really, that he failed to promise not to fuck with political enemies isn't the biggest problem. The biggest problem is that the infrastructure wasn't designed to be resilient against choke points like NPM, like the lack of package signing.

This is one of those situations where letting artistic designer types build infrastructure ends up fucking everyone in the long run.

We're moving away from node at my job and when I see this kind of shit, I realize that we can't do it quickly enough.

I can't think of many legit journalists I follow. I guess what sucks is that a good, legitimate journalist ends up being boring or unmemorable nowadays.

If you don't know how they think about a particular topic ahead of time, they're probably a good journalist. And that's precisely what makes them unmemorable.

(Or, actually, I can think of one I follow: Justin Fenton from the Baltimore Sun. He's reported on some funny / informative / interesting stuff from the city courts and I have no clue what his personal feelings are on any of this. He's not providing spicy takes, he's just reporting the news. Good man.)

From what I've seen, there's like a core group of them, the ones who started ayo, who actually do work on node in some capacity. The vast majority are, of course, the kinds of talented individuals who contribute to github almost entirely in markdown.

Some of them are actual programmers and do actual work. They just want to transition from doing actual work, to doing social justice work. "*cue piano music* I want my work to have more meaning... and I don't want to work as hard and have less responsibilities, but still get paid the same."

It's kind of like comparing programmers who became trannies with trannies who became programmers. The former group usually successfully worked in the industry a bit until their crippling autism drove them to mangle their genitals, whereas the latter are just looking for an easy meal ticket, and they assume programming is easy.
