forums that are still alive all have expired photobucket images or have gone through forum engine revamps where things don't show up properly anymore because locally stored images were wiped.

This is the bane of my existence. So many of my niche hobbies, particularly electronics, are increasingly difficult as all the pre-2000s to early 2000s internet forums die out. I deeply, truly, hate the modern internet and how no one actually writes things out anymore.

A written forum thread is infinitely easier to reference than a fucking youtube instructional video by some whiny annoying soyfag where you have to pause and rewind fifty million times to hear him speak the part you need rather than just leaving the information up on the screen like a forum can.

...and let us not forget the current trend of replacing forums with Discord servers, where "archiving" information is the same as not archiving anything at all. I'd say it's on the same level of retarded as businesses preferring to have Facebook pages instead of actual websites to represent them.

Wrong, Facebook pages show up in search results, keywords in discord servers don't, you won't be able to discern if the niche information is in the server until you join and sift through it. For once Facebook does something better
