Megathread Non-binary genders / Enbies - When Male and Female Aren't Special Enough

It's funny that those who identify as non-binary also disregard the "tucute" base Vade formed with her Scoutgender bull.

Isn't it essentially the same thing? You're doing it to look adorable to others, and you look like a bumbling moron instead.

Realistically speaking, yes. But enbies will try to justify it with, "nawn-binaree genders have existed longer den egypt !!", now couple that with a couple of thousand stupid kids just like them on a website and then apparently it has some form of legitimacy.

Here's a nice dump to revive this thread.

They're all trying way too hard but still unattractive.

I have met 2 openly nonbinary people in my life, both FtN, both in college 10ish years ago.

One of them was pretty normal, energetic, friendly, not overly evangelical, volunteered with the :optimistic: society and hit a decent androgynous look that I liked, kinda like this:

tumblr_oa78xmgXzQ1rzym3ko1_500.jpg

It can't have been strictly attention-seeking since they were good-looking enough to get attention on that alone. They were on that line where people ask if you're a boy or a girl which was perfect because this person could then respond 'neither' and explain and spread awareness that way. And if people didn't like that answer then they wouldn't get into big heated arguments about it, just be like 'well it's none of your business anyway'. It was a totally non-violent and inoffensive way to do it but it took that person actually making an effort to present as androgynous and easing people into it instead of just expecting others to accommodate them with no effort or prior notice on their own part and then getting outraged when the (often extremely tolerant) people in their lives have trouble adjusting. Re: pronouns "Well I like the zhe/zir ones but I don't really care, if it's easier to use singular they or whatever then go ahead"

The other nonbinary person that I had the misfortune of enduring would dominate all conversations about sexuality and questioning with their own 'problems', regularly attempt suicide for attention (costing their family thousands in medical bills), and occasionally drug their girlfriend to 'get a break' from her (the girlfriend was basically a battered wife with a different kind of physical violence). Re: pronouns, this person insisted on a specific pronoun which was also their username and preferred real name, which was awkward to use in conversation because it meant you were basically calling them by their name repeatedly anytime you'd use a pronoun in a sentence. Using singular 'they' was disrespectful.

This leads me to the conclusion that it's really a mixed bag.

My dudes, I've got some prime lolcow for you all. Dude identifies as an Evangelion and dates people who only identify as Shinji. Went through the stage of calling himself Mettaton, then clamored into the SU fandom, and right now is all head over heels for another.

He has this obsession with painting his eyebrows and looking like a total otaku, and insists he is a post-op dude.

I dont see why so many people in this thread keep expressing their feels about nonbinary being a thing.

If we hold people who claim to be trans male or female to the standard of must have dysphoria, why do these "nonbinary" people not have to also abide by that? You cant be dysphoric for /nothing/. It's less being trans and more like the people who think their arm doesnt belong and want to cut ot off. Of course, that's a rare condition and most of these nonbinary people are just bullshitting tomboys (or extremely feminine girls who want to be special).

truthfully, some nb genders make some amount of sense to me, but only agender and genderfluid. even then, i'm a little suspicious. all this neopronoun/*insert thing here*gender shit is annoying. people already don't take binary trangenderedereds seriously, so what makes you think that anybody irl would "respect" your bizarre bun/buns/bunself pronouns?

Some of it is a desire to be special, attract attention, or just give some confirmation bias that the world is out to get you. Or just add drama to their lives by being 'not-cis'.

I’ve mentioned this elsewhere, but my guess is a lot of enby/genderspecial bullshit comes from conflating gender with personality traits. If men are A, B, C, and D, and women are W, X, Y, and Z. then if you wake up feeling particularly A, you can claim to be "feeling masculine today". Or if you’re a physiological woman, but you don’t feel strongly to be X or Y, you can claim enby.

Thing is, under this logic very few people would be considered truly cisgendered, since they would have to have every trait from their own gender and none of the opposing traits. Likewise, if you're a male, but are not B, or sometimes X, then you're trans, a demi-boy, or some other genderspecial.

Trans people say "I've always felt like x/not felt like y," as a way to frame their experiences. Transtrenders and troons assume that they can't "feel" their gender (because they're cis and everything is fine,) so they must be some flavor of nawnbinaree or bigender shit.

Actually more trans people say you can't feel a gender, just the dysphoria. Snowflakes claim to "feel" a gender to excuse their lack of dysphoria. You can always claim to feel a gender without having dysphoria and earn those sweet, sweet oppression points.

the main problem with enbies on tumblr is that a lot of them are fine presenting as their birth gender(usually female) and don't want corrective surgery because they don't have gender dysphoria. they all insist that "just because i was assigned female at birth and like to wear dresses and do my makeup doesnt mean i identify as female!!" and then wonder why people dont understand their identity.

the way i see it is this: there are only 2 genders, male and female, but there are people who are bigender(identify as both at the same time and having dysphoria where they want both male and female parts) or agender, meaning they experience a desire to not have any sex characteristics at all. they experience dysphoria and a desire for surgery and/or hormone treatment. nonbinaries are very rare even in the trans community, and the fact that the identity is now becoming the cute and hip new way to ~smash the patriarchy uwu~ is kinda embarrassing. almost none of these "enbies" want surgery or treatment, and most of them don't even try to be androgynous.

anyone using pronouns other than he, she, or they pronouns is probably a transtrender. and a lot of people using they pronouns are transtrenders as well. then there's the nondysphoric fakebois that don't try to pass and whine when people call them girls.

genderfluid is almost always bullshit unless it's a mental disorder or something

Based on the brain map model of transsexualism, being "agender" is technically impossible, while "bigenderism" may have some merit. Human fetuses are a blank slate in the womb, and during development, if biology so decrees it (i.e., if the sperm is carrying an X or Y chromosome), the fetus will be subjected to either estrogen (X) or testosterone (Y). According to this model, the brain of an FTM is masculinized in utero, while the body becomes feminized; likewise, the brain of an MTF is feminized, while the body is masculinized in utero. Why this happens, I haven't the slightest clue.

However, what I do know and can infer from this model is that, if one were to be truly agender, they would have no brain map - resulting in no brain. If the fetus does not come into contact with sexed hormones in the womb, they would not develop. Human beings are not designed to be genderless and anyone claiming to be "agender" is lying.

As for being "bigender", I have found it is easier to liken it to the intersex condition once known as "true hermaphroditism" (now known as ovo-testes), where an infant is born with both ovarian and testicular tissue. This is due to a mix up of chromosomes at fertilization where some cells contain 46 XX chromosomes while others contain 46 XY chromosomes. Seeing as the X and Y chromosomes determine which hormone the fetus is exposed to, a fetus could - very, very rarely - be exposed to both estrogen and testosterone in utero in which only the brain is affected and not the body. It is estimated that only 1-2% of the population is affected by a physical intersex condition, which would make this instance of "bigenderism" that leads to transsexualism even rarer than transsexualism itself (which occurs like, 0.3% of the time).

TL;DR: people who call themselves "agender" are calling themselves brainless, "bigenderism" could be a thing if you think about hypothetical biology really hard.

Can't they just call themselves gender nonconformists. That's all they're doing and it even has the benefit of actually sounding like some smash the patriarchy bullshit.

From what I've observed and what's been discussed in some of my psych classes, those who identify with having 'agender dysphoria' (and these are actual cases, not the snowflakes) kind of have a different mental issue than your more garden variety form of gender dysphoria - simply explained, it's like they want to be the physical equivalent of a crash test dummy/ken doll/robot. No genitals, no tits, nothing, basically. They seem to know it doesn't make sense 'biologically' - the brain is pretty gendered with hormones and development and all that, but this is still what their brain apparently tells them they need their body to be like.

No, I honestly don't understand it either, but mental illnesses are often like that. Sometimes the brain contradicts itself. I will note, this phenomenon really seems to be a more contemporary/recent occurrence, though, with little to no historical reference. Maybe it's the technological era equivalent to the concept of the mythological hermaphrodite?

that's how i've heard agender people describe it. they mostly want to nullify their sex. even though it's obviously not genetically possible, surgery removes or alters the physical characteristics and hormones can help make them more androgynous. but yeah, along with bigenders, agenders are a minority amongst trans people.

There are only 2 genders, and you're born as either one with no way to change that.
