Not Being Stupid Is ‘Cognitive Privilege’ - Which Is Just Like White Privilege

The University of Iowa’s student newspaper has announced the discovery of a special privilege which intelligent people acquire as an accident of birth. This new privilege — called “cognitive privilege” — functions in essentially the same way as white privilege.

The Daily Iowan revealed the discovery of this new privilege earlier this week.

Garden-variety white privilege “is an important topic that deserves a public discussion,” the op-ed on “cognitive privilege” explains, but it is also “prudent to at least mention the wider concept contained therein: that of privilege itself.”

Privilege in general is “the receipt of certain benefits wholly through accident of birth and it is “undeniable that privilege itself is a reality,” the student newspaper explains.

Also, Williams declares, robots will wipe out manual labor jobs but will somehow not affect jobs available to members of a special cognitive elite.

“Thus, the accident of having been born smart enough to be able to be successful is a great benefit that you did absolutely nothing to earn. Consequently, you have nothing to be proud of for being smart.”

Williams believes that America will be better able to discuss “white privilege” and the “temperature-rising topic of racial privilege” if it is able to admit the existence of “cognitive privilege.”

Don’t worry, though. “The purpose” here “is not to instill a sort of Catholic guilt in someone’s psyche.”

“The purpose of pointing out someone’s privilege is to remind them of the infinite number of experiences that are possible and the very large number of experiences that are actual that they know very little about.” (Williams does not say how he has obtained his special knowledge in this regard.)

“Feelings of guilt are natural when coming to consciousness of one’s place in the scheme of things — and noticing that one has been conferred benefits through sheer accident — but guilt is an impediment to social-justice action, not a motivator (guilt slides easily into resentment),” the author writes.

“We can debate whether ‘whiteness’ is a sort of ‘master privilege’ that overrules all others.”

The concept of “white privilege” was popularized in academic circles by a 1987 essay entitled “White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack.” The author was Peggy McIntosh, an inconsequential white feminist.

I have a feeling that the creator of the original article does not have this privilege, so they go REEEEEEEE.

Count down to an ironic or unironic (it doesn't matter anymore because in our time Poe's Law is as constant as gravity) tumblr blog named This is Cognitive Privilege which will repost without prejudice both sincere and troll submissions.

Tumblr has already REEEEed against some kind of made up sexuality called sophisexuality or something like that. I can't be bothered to remember 9000 different types of snowflake. It's being attracted only to smart people. Some tumblrtards won't include the made up flag in their Flags of Snowflakelandia collections because it is ableist.

Even if you were highly intelligent and had the potential to become history's most successful brain surgeon or rocket scientist you sure as hell aren't getting that off the ground if you live in a scrap metal shack in Brazil or a mud hut in Sub Saharan Africa. Not without extreme luck on your side. Intelligence isn't just something you are born with. It's something that has to be cultivated by working hard and being able to obtain the right opportunities. There's a lot more that goes into it than being born more clever than the next guy.

The people complaining about cognitive privilege probably have GPAs that greatly disappoint the parents that slaved all their lives to afford college tuition. A bunch of lazy kids who can't be bothered to study. So they complain that the only reason they are failing is "muh cognitive privilege".

See, this is why college isn't for everybody and everybody shouldn't be going to college. We need to stop encouraging everyone to go regardless of their academic abilities and laziness levels and just send them to a trade school or hand them a Walmart smock. College is being ruined by people who don't belong there just as much as it's being ruined by virtue signaling professors who think we're reliving the 60s because of all this whiny activism.

People take a lot of things for granted and college and the college "experience" is one of them. But I cant see that particular aspect going away; it makes money, it's kind of a bubble. Everybody sees college is "the next step" and everyone older than 25 will tell you that 18 is way too immature to really take college seriously and utilize and get the most out of it and the opportunities it offers. Obviously not everyone and people do succeed in college even if they dont take full advantage of it, but some resources are spent in a kind of inefficient way. You need to know what youre going to college for, what you want to get out of it, beyond just a slip of paper. It's not necessarily just "the next step" although a lot of people can make that step successfully.

I'd say Nature has a way of weeding out the terminally stupid, but considering so many of these cunts live in gated communities Nature can't correct the problem.

I think getting rid of saber tooth tigers was the biggest mistake humanity ever made.
I recall hearing years back that some scientists were going to try and bring back some of the mega-fauna like smilodon fatalis and canis dirus so they could observe them for study. We can only pray that they got their funding and are now as we speak re-creating the super predators of the past.

There is a conflation of "smart" and "intelligent"

Smart is what you know

Intelligent is how fast you learn it

I know a few people that you can judge as "not smart" or even "dumb" based on say, IQ tests or performance on some other standardized knowledge test. But, they can STILL do something useful much much better than YOU, the "smart" person, because they stuck with it and put in the hours required to get good at it and have surpassed you all the same.

"Smart" is a nice attribute, but, outside of appearing on "Jeopardy!" just knowing stuff in an academic way is only half the puzzle, the other is application, in both time and place.

So I get a chuckle about the "smart" professor who grinds his campus' computer network to a halt because he opened a virus laden email on his laptop, but still thinks the janitor who cleans out his office is the "dumb" one because that guy can't recite the periodic table from memory and took such a low-level "dumb" job that anyone could do....... now what's taking that IT guy so long to GET here, doesn't he know how IMPORTANT I am to the functioning of the world? And so what if I opened an email we had a mass-mail warning about? I don't have TIME to bother with STUPID PEOPLE!!!

The funny thing is, these tools don't understand the "college experience" is a marketing gimmick sold to them by the education industry and they bought it hook line and sinker. It's no different than the De Beers cartel convincing the western world a century ago that diamond rings were suddenly a necessary component of marriage.

If Cognitive Privilege is a part of White Privilege, wouldn't that mean that White Supremacists are right after all?

You'd think they'd realize that agreeing with white supremacists that white people are inherently more intelligent than black people is pretty problematic.

But I guess that's just my not-being-the-dumbest-fucking-moron-alive privilege talking.

Amazing. Like I have said many times. The Far Right, really its just the Right, doesn't have to do much anymore. Just point and say "I told you so".
