Because of a typo: Faeser accidentally prohibits Youtube channel of Chanel instead of islamists
Faeser's ministry wanted to ban the social media presence of the Islamic center - but made a typo in the ban decree. Instead, the Youtube channel of the fashion brand Chanel is now forbidden.
YouTube channel prohibited: Nancy Faser's ministry with an embarrassing accident.
Actually, with her ban of the Islamisches Zentrum Hamburg (IZH), a terrorism-adjacent proxy of the Iranian regime, Nancy Faeser wanted to make a statement against Islamism - right after the controversial Compact magazine raid. In doing so, however, the ministry seems to have made an embarrassing mistake.
In the ban decree, several social media channels are listed which are to be shut down in the scope of the IZH ban. Among which is the channel of the Islamisches Zentrum Berlin, a sister organization of the IZH in Hamburg. In doing so, the government officials and lawyers of the Federal Ministry of the Interior made a small, but decisive mistake. Apparently, they typed down the URL of the YouTube channel of the Islamisches Zentrum Berlin by hand - and made a typo. They forgot an "N".
However, this has wide-reaching legal consequences. Because of this single typo, the link which is supposed to define the YouTube channel that is to be banned now no longer leads to the IZ Berlin - but to the channel of the famous fashion brand Chanel. The ban decree now officially concerns the French fashion company.
(translator's note: Tweet from @LennartPhaler "Small Fail: According to its decree, the Ministry of the Interior didn't ban the YouTube channel of "Islamisches Zentrum Berlin e.V.", but that of @CHANEL")
This surely seems to be a typo - but a typo that is now legally valid. The Ministry has yet to comment on this faux-pas.
