I think the point is that in order to have a country as such, you need a unifying element to it. Any kind of national identity and pride people from different races could rally behind has been thoroughly criticized and expunged with no real replacement to it (Not only in the US, but in the western world in general), which leaves either race (Ethnonationalism) or religion (Theonationalism?) to fill the gap. To be fair, my first interaction with my now BF was he was making a bit of a criticism in what I wrote in my second language, but he wasn't mean about it. I think women can definitely do many manufacturing jobs and intelligence roles, which are part of the military. Women working those jobs in WWII while the men were fighting was necessary, since labor was skewed due to the drafting.
