These coins may not be the most valuable, the most rare, or even in the best condition, but they're the oldest two I have, both in date (I haven't stumbled upon any ancients in my limited budget) and in my own history of collecting, as they were picked up by my great grandfather during his service in France in WWII.

Added a new coin to my collection today. Haggled the guy down a good amount so this one definitely was worth its value. Its not a bahamas but a bermuda but its still just as beautiful. Online this is known as the "two wahoos"

After that I was lead into another rabbit hole...this time with bermuda issued currency. This is when I found the specially issued silver bermuda triangle coin their mint legitimately released as for some reason a 9 dollar coin:

i need to get some pasta coins there one of the major nations i dont have
I have no idea where you're from but here in the US, they're easier to find for cheap than German coins of the same era. Almost all the ones in my collection came out of random foreign coin bargain bins. The fasces is more subtle than the swastika ig.

I've seen this great channel mentioned in the thread a few times. I hate to say it but looks like Classical Numismatics has some health issues going on. Not sure exactly what these would be from. Maybe the gals in the Munchies thread could give some insight.

The numismatics world unfortunately is dominated by two primary demographics, either millenial get rich quick tubers or boomers who forget their grandchildren's name. I hope the current generation one day learns the beauty of metal work.

The youtube coin community is very small. I dont think any of them have over 100k subscribers. That is if you don't count stacking/precious metals channels, which i certainly don't. I do think you're onto something though. I've been to many coin shows over the last few years and it seems like the vast majority of people are over 60. Although many of the crusty old bastards are mean to younger people, they are the most informed and experienced. Since they're all in retirement all they care about is making a profit.

In general buying online/ through auctions is much cheaper, likely because young people aren't so greedy. Some of the best dealers I've met are elderly but many are awful to deal with.

I also really enjoy the human aspect that you can own something that's been in so many hands and been used so many times. I like to think of what roman citizens bought with the coins I now own, or what goods were exchanged in the carribeans with some other coins. It's a really nice piece of history.

i'm in agreement with the above two posters.

i've been collecting coins from my birth year since i was young. my mom got me started when she bought me one of those encased sets of u.s. coins for my 10th birthday, followed by two sets of the coins that were issued by the country that was divided when i was born and now no longer exists. for years, i would just keep a coin whatever i found one from my birth year, but about a decade ago i began to search for them in earnest. i've compiled several complete sets of coins from countries that no longer exist, which is something that seems special to me when i hold those coins in my hands. i also really enjoy finding information about specific coins from that year that i don't already have, and then searching for them. it's a definitely become a thing for me.

I guess I'm not the only person actively pursuing coins from defunct countries. I dont have any complete sets yet as it's hard to find many dates from defunct countries that are graded by PCGS.

Your boy has hit the mother lode. After much google-fu, I found an online coin dealer that sells exactly what I’m looking for: circulated foreign coins from the last century and earlier that I can pick through. He even has silver with no premium, which I jumped on.

Found a lot of stuff that the LCS bin didn’t have, like that aluminum 50 reichspfennig. And some stuff that just cool like the 500 mark coin from Weimar Germany and the 2 Groschen from a year before Germany annexed Austria,

If you ask nicely, I might give you my source.
