I was thinking tonight over the sacagawea dollar coins and how I literally haven't Even one since like 2015. Maybe its just the specific mint but holy shit theyve gone up in value.

Are those sold lots or just listings? Because you can list for whatever price you want, doesn't mean anyone's going to buy them at that price. Plus you can get them on Amazon for 10 bucks.

They are listings. It popped up on best match. If I did highest price+shipping then scrolled to the last page (lowest price+shipping is artificial and doesnt show everything) there are normal listings though the coins are pretty brown and murky. Side note, the sacagawea coins are such a beautiful design. The side inscription followed by the bald eagle on the back is great. Sacagawea doing a different pose, personally would be better imo. Least the coins werent as bastardized as much as the uncirculated current year ones are. I am so glad I dont see this shit around.

Still ugly as hell.

Imagine if we had this instead of the Susan B Anthony. Yes this was the original design before feminists screeched.

Was matching an archived MATI episode and got a nice lesson on the history of Israeli coinage from Null. Apparently they never circulated their own silver after independence in 1948 but they made some commemoratives with less and less silver over time.

I found this in my drawer earlier this week in perfect condition and while I typically keep my coins I figured I would give it to an appraiser since I wasnt too fond of the design. It is pretty boring tbh. I know I could have gone the ebay route but I didnt want to wait over 10 months for it to sell for half its value. Attached is a pic of the coin from ebay. Maybe it looks more interesting to yall.

Finally got to dig through the foreign voin tub at the local shop again. This time it was a very Japanese axis nations haul (and a shekel). I cleaned up the german coin with some baking soda and water to at least make it legible. 20250208_120547.jpegIMG_0012.jpeg

After selling that gold panda I figured I'd throw some of my money into some dream coins I wanted to own. One of them was this walking liberty half dollar from 1928 rated under icq-f15. Seller initially wanted 75 dollars, but I was able to haggle him down to 70. Shame that because I wanted to make sure it authentic I ended up with some untingable. Alas I have some Third Reich coins coming that while not 100% silver are pretty clankable.

Dont mean to double post but what year is the shekel?
So I had to google how to read dates in Hebrew and I believe the semitic moonrunes translate to 5753, which is 1993 in the Gregorian calendar. And it's actually a 10 Agorot coin, which is like a shekel dime.

Damn thats a lotta work to figure that out but def a lot newer than I expected considering the design. If I ever got one id like one from around 1700-1880

Update: i cannot find any currency prior to the 1940s. Besides that I can only find coins from the ancient era. Did they use paper currencu only then?

Oh also there was a coin show recently so I picked up a couple more.

What's the best way to clean old pennies? I have a small handful of Wheat Ears and I'd like to give them a good shine if possible to do so without ruining them.

Ah dollar coins. the thing the government tried everything to get Americans to adopt except something sensible like widespread effort to distribute them to retailers to then give out as change (or if they did they certainly didn't do a good job of it). Instead they were supposed to adopted nationwide purely through the power of numismatic nerds asking for them at the bank. Wish I had as chill a job as the overpaid armies of consultants and specialists they probably hired to try to figure this out.

From what I've heard, even the faintest whiff of cleaning on a coin tanks it's worth to face/melt value, but if it's just for your own collection an ultrasonic bath or an old toothbroosh and baking-soda

OK, I'm megaretarded and not even I could have come up with a plan that stupid

There's also a quarter farthing for use in Ceylon (which go for about £80/$100 these days!)
Was finally able to add the quarter farthing to my fractional collection, a coin worth ¹⁄₁₆ of a penny!

The Sacajawea dollar collector craze seems manufactured. I just spend them.
